Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, weekdays and weekends Hours per Shift: 36/48 hour rotation Experience: Minimum one (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license is required Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment of patients. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. They apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. The RN attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents and prepares a list of those to be examined. They also prepare the examining room and equipment. The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures. They communicate with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and respond to emergencies as they arise. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries and refers them to emergency rooms or other healthcare facilities as needed. They perform emergency procedures and notify Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. Job responsibilities include monitoring inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate. Providing guidance and overseeing the nursing care delivered by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff is essential. The RN maintains good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies. Utilizing established corporate and facility policies and procedures, the RN makes sound independent decisions while fulfilling responsibilities. Regular evaluations of medical services are conducted to prevent inappropriate use or duplication. Maintaining absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records is critical. The RN assists with the review of medical files to ensure all services provided are documented. Careful monitoring of potential catastrophic illnesses is required. Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed or required, is part of their duties. Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is mandatory. The RN observes and records inmate/resident behavior. Inspecting the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband is necessary, along with the secure storage or disposal of supplies and equipment. The RN provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as needed. They assist with preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs in a timely manner, ensuring appropriate grammar is used. Reading and comprehending medical and technical procedures, as well as governmental regulations and legal documents, is required. The RN reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits, attending court hearings when necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency in medical services is key. The RN prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required and takes appropriate action during emergencies and serious incidents. US Citizenship required for ICE clearance.
