Assistant Controller

Texas Aquastore, a premier provider in the water storage and wastewater industry, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller. Position Summary The Assistant Controller will support the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, project accounting, and compliance functions. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting construction accounting processes, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting across multiple projects. Key Responsibilities Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by ensuring timely and accurate capture of expenses, vendor invoices, and employee/project time tracking to support reconciliations, financial reporting, and project cost accuracy. Maintain accurate financial records and support financial reporting in accordance with company policies and GAAP. Process and support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice entry, payment support, collections coordination, and account reconciliations. Support project accounting activities, including job setup, job cost tracking, and maintenance of project financial records within the accounting system. Maintain vendor records, including vendor setup and ongoing updates to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation. Assist with certified payroll reporting and compliance for construction projects, including preparation and required documentation. Assist with sales and use tax filings in the states in which we do business. Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial information. Support special projects and additional accounting or operational initiatives as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based accounting environments. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and GAAP principles. Experience with construction accounting, including job costing and project setup, is strongly preferred. Familiarity with sales and use tax compliance preferred. Exposure to or familiarity with certified payroll reporting and compliance preferred. Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel, and comfort working in ERP/accounting systems. High level of accuracy, organization, and accountability. Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments. Self‑motivated, dependable, and eager to grow within a dynamic organization.
