Director Of Infectious Diseases
The Director of Infectious Diseases (DoID) provides direction to the organization with respect to general Infectious Diseases (ID) as well as HIV medical care. DoID is responsible for directly managing Infectious Disease providers. Keeps staff informed of developments in relevant ID/HIV medicine and actively pursues opportunities to further develop and improve the ID/HIV care that CBHC provides. The DoID collaborates closely with the director of the social work and outreach department (SWOD), the Ryan White grants team, and the Chief Medical Officer. This position represents CBHC to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV Medicine and ID.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
Analytical and Critical Thinking
Guides the organization on the Care Model to patient care.
Maintains the standard of clinical care, using diagnostic testing appropriately yet cost-effectively, and providing appropriate treatment.
Assesses for barriers in our patients' social environments that are likely to affect health outcomes.
Works with the business intelligence team to promote data-driven decisions.
Create and implement new quality initiatives and related PDSAs or fishbone diagrams, as needed
Professionalism
Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of patient care and collaboration.
Fosters a collaborative work environment.
Communication
Is an activist for their patients and peers.
Advocates for referral to ASTRx for HIV patients.
Responds promptly to queries from sponsors.
Participates in internal committees and work groups as requested.
Leads the monthly ID Committee meeting.
Represent Chase Brexton at community, quality, and TA meetings including but not limited to Planning Council, Baltimore EMA Quality Improvement Collaborative, and Maryland HIV Planning Group
Participate in monthly and quarterly conference calls with Program Officers as the Ryan White Quality Lead for the organization.
Patient Focus
Effectively engages patients in their care.
Fosters an environment of excellent customer service.
Works closely with SWOD and the patient advisory council (PAC)
Ensuring quality and compliance with regulatory standards.
Provide clinical training, leadership and mentorship to staff providers, residents and externs
Promote excellence in patient care and outcomes through collaborative work with other departments.
Leads efforts to develop and establish programs to improve ID quality for the communities served. Collaborate with teams to assess and enhance program effectiveness, patient satisfaction and access to care.
Compliance, Policy, and Procedure
Shows meaningful progress toward their quality improvement goals.
Keeps current with respect to organizational policies and procedures and puts them into action accordingly.
Adheres to RW goals and requirements and implements PDSAs.
Ensure adherence to administrative policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains a teaching affiliation with outside organizations.
Ensure all institutional partnership and collaborations are aligned with Chase Brexton's policies and standards
Knowledge of Ryan White legislation, Standards of Care and Policy Notices
Workplace Computers and Equipment
Maintains complete, legible, and comprehensive documentation.
Utilizes EMR resources to manage patient care, flags, protocols, and referrals.
Checking, Examining, and Recording
Consistently completes progress notes consistent with CBHC policies.
Accepts and completes administrative tasks as assigned.
Planning and Organizing
Is timely with respect to completion of necessary paperwork such as disability forms.
Reads and responds to e-mail in a timely manner.
Coordinate grant deliverables and performance metrics with Ryan White Program Coordinator including but not limited to work plans, progress reports, CQM plan, CQM narrative, etc.
Strategic Leadership
Provides direction to the organization with respect to ID related matters
Functions as CBHC's clinical consultant in ID
Keeps CBHC clinical staff aware of updates to ID guidelines and new research findings through regular presentations at staff meetings
Ensures that medical staff and other interested/involved departments (nursing, SWOD) are aware of current clinical trials and changes in guidelines
Represents CBHC to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV Medicine.
Teamwork
Collaborate with all other departments across the organization to uphold quality standards and address patient satisfaction in a timely manner.
Work closely with leadership, finance, information technology, quality assurance, infection control and other departments to ensure:
o Accurate and compliant health records
o Timely staff review and audits
o Staff compliance with protocols and documentation standards
Performance Management
Completes evaluations of staff in a timely manner
Provide supervision and support for all clinical providers reporting to the DoID.
Set and communicate clear performance expectations, goals, and objectives for team members.
Identify training needs and support ongoing development opportunities for staff
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement.
Ensure staff adhere to clinical standards, safety protocols, and documentation requirements.
Skills And Abilities
Ability to function in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner with other medical staff, as well as staff in other departments in order to maximize the well-being of our patients.
Proficient in computer literacy
Experience in clinical and educational program development
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Education And/Or Experience
Required: M.D. or D.O. or N.P. with completion of an accredited fellowship training program or AAHIVM certification.
Board Certification for Infectious Diseases Physician and/or a combination of internal medicine, family practice and experience working with HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases.
Required: Minimum 3 years experience in treating people living with HIV/AIDS in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
Desired: Experience working in a non-profit healthcare environment.
Required: Federal DEA license
Current Maryland License to practice medicine
