About This Role

Instruct preschoolers in activities promoting social, physical, and intellectual growth in a preschool or child development setting, potentially requiring state certification.

What You'll Do

• Offer children a range of materials and resources to explore, engage with, and learn from, both in structured activities and imaginative play.
• Tend to the fundamental needs of children, including feeding, dressing, and changing diapers.
• Teach foundational skills, such as recognizing colors, shapes, numbers, and letters, as well as personal hygiene and social skills.
• Establish and enforce guidelines for behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom.
• Read books to entire classes or small groups, engaging them in storytelling and literature.
• Design and lead activities that foster physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and field trips.
• Monitor and assess children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health to inform teaching and support needs.
• Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related challenges and discuss them with supervisors, parents, and child development specialists.
• Maintain open communication with parents and guardians about their children's progress, needs, and priorities, offering suggestions to support learning and development.
• Implement and enforce administrative policies and rules governing students' behavior.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for activities and lessons, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
• Model and teach children proper eating habits and personal hygiene practices.
• Plan and serve meals and snacks according to nutritional guidelines, promoting healthy eating habits.
• Help children settle into the school environment by greeting them, assisting with transitions, and engaging them in activities that cater to their interests.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs and interests of students, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
• Clearly outline objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating them to children to promote understanding and engagement.
• Demonstrate activities and practices to children, providing hands-on learning experiences.
• Arrange classroom and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play, motor skill development, and safety, adapting to children's needs and interests.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student progress, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Prepare and submit reports on students' activities and performance, as needed, to inform teaching and administrative decisions.
• Develop and implement a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that encourages children to observe, question, and investigate.
• Organize and display students' work in a manner that suits their ages and abilities, promoting self-expression and creativity.
• Attend professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and best practices in early childhood education.
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan and schedule lessons that align with approved curricula, promoting a cohesive and effective learning environment.
• Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers, ensuring effective support for teaching and learning.
• Contribute to the development, evaluation, and revision of preschool programs in collaboration with other teachers and administrators.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required, contributing to the broader needs and goals of the school community.
• Maintain open communication with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress, ensuring comprehensive support and services.
• Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and experiential activities that promote learning and development, guiding students in reflection and application.
• Select, store, order, and manage classroom equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring a well-equipped and efficient learning environment.
• Provide assistive devices, technology, and support to enable children with disabilities to fully participate in learning activities.
• Perform various administrative duties, such as hall and cafeteria monitoring, bus loading and unloading, and other responsibilities as assigned.
• Administer tests to assess children's developmental levels, needs, and potential, informing teaching and support strategies.
• Develop and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra support, tailored to their individual needs and goals.
