Firefighter/Paramedic (Non IFSAC Certified)
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Marysville Fire District Firefighter Job Description, this position provides initial emergency medical care and treatment to the sick and injured at an emergency response scene. The Firefighter/Paramedic will be primarily responsible for medical judgments made in the field in accordance with the protocols and guidelines of the Medical Control Physician, EMS protocols and Marysville Fire District SOP's. Paid Leave Vacation - Non Represented Full-Time Staff Up to four (4) years of service: 8 hours earned per month.
From five (5) years to ten (10) years of service: 12 hours earned per month.
From eleven (11) years to fourteen (14) years of service: 16 hours earned per month.
From fifteen (15) years plus years of service: 18 hours earned per month.
Vacation - IAFF Members
Up to four (4) years of service: 9 hours earned per month.
From five (5) years to ten (10) years of service: 13 hours earned per month.
From eleven (11) years to fourteen (14) years of service: 18 hours earned per month.
From fifteen (15) years to twenty (20) years of service: 20 hours earned per month.
From tweny-one (21) years or more years of service: 22 hours earned per month.
Sick Leave
Employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 11 hours per month for 40-hour per week employees, and 16 hours per month for 24-hour shift employees.
Holidays In lieu of holidays, employees assigned to a 24-hour shift will receive 144 hours annually, to be scheduled and used in the same manner as vacation leave.
For those employees assigned to a 40-hour weekly shift, the following holidays are observed:

Marysville Fire District employees are enrolled in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems and do not pay into the Social Security system. The Fire District will also match up to a maximum 4 percent of the employee's base monthly wage to one of three deferred compensation plans offered by the District.
Insurance Benefits The Marysville Fire District provides medical, dental and vision insurance through the Washington Fire Commissioners Association. The District pays 100 percent of medical and dental insurance premiums for the employee, 90 percent of medical insurance premiums for dependents and 85 percent of dental insurance premiums for dependents.
The Marysville Fire District provides a $25,000 life insurance policy for full-time employees.
The Marysville Fire District contributes $1,250 per year into a HRA VEBA Medical Reimbursement Plan for Public Employees and provides an Employee Assistance Program. Other Optional Benefits

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responds to emergency incidents involving fire as part of a firefighting team, engages in all types of firefighting activities which include but are not limited to rescue, protection of exposures, confinement of fires, extinguishment of fire, overhaul of fire scenes, ventilation and salvage operations, responds to major alarms when called in from off duty, operates/utilizes all machinery, equipment and supplies appropriate for area of assignment.
- Responding to emergency medical alarms, locating patients and identifying the nature of any illness or injury and, under supervision or general orders, initiate and administer proper and continuous emergency medical treatment at the scene until patients are delivered to a medical facility for further treatment if necessary.
- Complying with Snohomish County EMS Protocols, Marysville Fire District Policies, Procedures and General Orders, Medical Control Physician direction and base hospital physician's recommendations after radio and/or phone consults.
- Transport of patients to a medical facility for further treatment, if necessary, as per Snohomish County EMS Protocols and Marysville Fire District Policies and Procedures.
- Responding to patient and family needs in a timely and professional manner. Communicating with the patient and family regarding conditions, treatment and recommended therapy.
- Obtaining detailed patient history, patient examination and assessment, timely and complete recording and filing of appropriate Marysville Fire District EMS documentation.
- Directing fire district personnel in patient care and treatment at the emergency scene and during transport to a medical facility.
- Driving appropriate district vehicles, as qualified, to the scene of a fire, accident, or EMS alarm.
- Responsibility for daily and weekly EMS apparatus checks and maintaining appropriate inspection documentation, reporting mechanical and defective equipment problems.
- Monitoring the medical supply inventory for the EMS apparatus, ordering and maintaining adequate reserve supply on EMS apparatus and maintaining the appropriate inventory and ordering documentation.
- Providing EMS training classes to fire district personnel on approved medical procedures and techniques. Providing continuing education classes for Marysville Fire District Firefighter/Paramedics, Firefighter EMT's and Firefighter First Responders.
- Maintaining and cleaning station facilities, grounds, and apparatus.
- Perform any other Firefighter or Firefighter/Paramedic related work as required.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years old.
- Hold a current Washington State DOH Paramedic Certification or Possess a National Registry Paramedic certification
- Prior experience as a volunteer or a career level firefighter is desirable.
An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Principles, practices and emerging trends of modern firefighting, emergency operations and best practices as a Paramedic, including fire suppression/attack.
- Successfully complete Snohomish County EMS Agency credentialing
- Successfully complete Snohomish County Fire Training Academy within 12 months of hire, unless successfully completed previously.
- Read, analyze and interpret emergency care methods and techniques. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Work calmly and systematically in stressful and/or hazardous conditions.
- Reason and make appropriate judgments and decisions under stress.
- Establish and maintain effective, amicable relations with co-workers and the public.
- Communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for each citizen's rights.
- Successfully complete a written evaluation of paramedic knowledge, skills and abilities, and entry-level firefighting knowledge.
- Successfully complete an oral exam and evaluation by the Medical Services Administrator - BC
- Successfully complete an oral interview with the Fire Chief.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug test as determined by the Department's physician.
- Successfully pass a psychological exam.
- Complete the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
- Successfully complete a twelve-month probationary period.
- Be of good moral character and temperament, conscientious habits and requires that the employee demonstrate good character through words and actions.
- To work irregular hours.
- Requires a valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the Department's insurance carrier at all times.
- Possess and maintain a current Washington State and/or National Registry Paramedic Certification.
- Possess and/or acquire and maintain a current ACLS Certification.
