Rig Welder - Houston, TX Bay Ltd.

JOB SUMMARY: Position of rig welder uses hand welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld, repair or join metal pipe or structural components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. Essential Functions: Must own gas or diesel welding rig including PPE and jack stands Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions Welding pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications Operate tools and equipment including: angle grinders, beveling machines, cut-off grinders, hammers, torches, magnetic drills, welding machines, and a saw-zall. Lay out, positon, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Knowledge of arithmetic Lay out, fits and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW,FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW) Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products Perform daily maintenance and safety checks Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written with co-workers, and supervisors. Adhere to strict safety standards and procedures Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required Must have 3 years’ experience as a welder Must pass a weld test (stick, tig, sub-arc, flux core, or mig) Physical Requirements: Must be able to twist, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as required to perform essential functions for extended periods of time. Able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help. Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
