Company Description Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative (MDFC) is a grower-owned cooperative located in Wahpeton, in the southeast corner of North Dakota, within the Red River Valley. MDFC’s operations cover approximately 1,200 acres in Richland County and are supported by around 500 sugarbeet shareholders and growers. These growers collectively cultivate about 115,000 acres of sugarbeets, forming a key part of the domestic sweetener industry. The Wahpeton plant processes shareholder-produced sugarbeets and supports a workforce of year-round, seasonal, and harvest employees. Team members join a cooperative environment focused on agriculture, manufacturing, and community-based success. Role Description The Safety Assistant is a full-time, on-site role located at MDFC’s facility in Wahpeton, ND. This role supports the safety team in implementing and monitoring health and safety programs across plant and field operations. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with safety inspections, documenting findings, and helping to ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Safety Assistant helps coordinate safety training sessions, maintains safety records and incident reports, and supports investigations of near‑miss and incident events. The role also involves communicating safety information to employees, distributing personal protective equipment, and collaborating with supervisors and team members to promote a safe work environment. Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of Health & Safety and Occupational Health practices, with the ability to support compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Experience or education in Environment Health and Safety (EHS), including understanding of workplace hazards and risk mitigation in industrial or agricultural settings. Strong Analytical Skills to review safety data, identify trends, and assist in developing practical solutions to improve safety performance. Effective Communication skills to clearly convey safety expectations, procedures, and training content to individuals and groups across different shifts. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate safety documentation, reports, and training records. Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, maintenance, production, and field teams, and to follow through on safety initiatives. Basic proficiency with computers and common office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, word processing) for reporting and record-keeping. Relevant education or training in safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field is preferred; prior experience in manufacturing or agricultural environments is an asset.
