THOM Thomas Hospitals Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a multi‑state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) Current temporary RN permit as required by the state board where services will be provided MD: No temporary permit issued. Requirements include documentation of recent graduation from a School of Nursing and obtaining a permanent RN license within 90 days of graduation OH: No temporary permit issued. Ohio nurses must be currently licensed PA: Current PA RN temporary permit. Must obtain permanent licensure within one year of graduation WV: Current WV RN graduate permit. Must obtain permanent licensure within 180 days of graduation Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred or Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma; alternatively, currently enrolled in a BSN program and expected to complete the BSN within five years of hire Core Duties and Responsibilities Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within scope of practice Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with the health care team Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care Uses standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery Bases decisions and actions on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings; seeks assistance or credible resources when unable to perform safely and independently Determines or revises priorities for direct or indirect patient care activities based on patient acuity and available resources; updates daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, and information Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs Identifies teaching or learning needs of patients Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents it in patient charts Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction Assumes responsibility for development of others Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development Fosters integration of staff and/or students into the health care team and facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision Demonstrates skill in management of conflict situations Promotes trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level Engages in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs Participates in performance improvement activities as appropriate Physical Requirements The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, limiting safe patient handling to 35 pounds; all transfers, lifts and repositioning are to be performed utilizing lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms Heavy or hard work: Requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more Working Environment Working closely with others Protracted or irregular hours Working around biohazards Working around infectious diseases Working with hands in water Electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment Position may cover multiple clinic locations and requires some travel Other Information Scheduled weekly hours: 40 Shift: United States of America (Non‑Exempt) Equal Opportunity Employer West Virginia University Health System and its subsidiaries (collectively “WVUHS”) is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
