Clinical Trainer Regular Full-time Worcester, MA, US Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually Position Summary: The Clinical Trainer/Nurse Educator supports the clinical team through the development, implementation, and delivery of education, training, and professional development programs that promote high-quality, evidence-based patient care. This role collaborates with clinical leaders and frontline staff to identify learning needs, develop standardized training materials, and support the adoption of clinical best practices, quality initiatives, and organizational standards. The Clinical Trainer/Nurse Educator facilitates both large and small group training sessions, provides onboarding education for new clinical staff, and maintains an organized repository of educational resources and training materials. The role also participates in the review, development, and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and care guidelines to support quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, team-based care, and continuous performance improvement. Using feedback from staff and quality data, the Clinical Trainer/Nurse Educator identifies opportunities for educational interventions and process improvements that enhance clinical performance and patient outcomes. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and facilitation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while meeting established timelines. Program Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Education and Staff Development: Assess educational needs of Medical Assistants, Clinical Support Aides, Nurses, Nursing Students, and MA Externs through observation, quality metrics, staff feedback, and leadership input. Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate standardized clinical training programs that support organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice. Create and maintain educational materials, competency tools, skills checklists, training manuals, and learning resources for clinical staff. Provide classroom, virtual, and hands‑on clinical instruction to support staff competency and professional development. Coordinate and facilitate orientation and onboarding programs for newly hired clinical staff. Develop individualized learning plans and remediation programs for staff requiring additional training or performance support. Support ongoing competency validation and annual skills assessments for clinical staff. Promote a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and clinical excellence across all ambulatory care sites. Student and Extern Program Management: Coordinate clinical experiences and onboarding activities for nursing students and Medical Assistant externs. Serve as a primary educational resource and mentor for students and externs during clinical placements. Collaborate with academic institutions to ensure clinical experiences meet educational objectives and organizational standards. Evaluate student and extern performance and provide feedback to educational partners and clinical leadership. Ensure students and externs receive appropriate training related to patient safety, infection prevention, clinical workflows, and organizational policies. Quality Improvement and Clinical Excellence: Partner with Quality and Population Health teams to identify educational interventions that support quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcomes. Develop and deliver training related to preventive care, chronic disease management, care gap closure, patient safety, and population health strategies. Utilize quality and performance data to identify trends, knowledge gaps, and opportunities for staff development. Participate in quality improvement projects and interdisciplinary committees related to clinical care, patient experience, and regulatory compliance. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through competency assessments, audits, and quality measures. Clinical Practice Support: Assist clinical leaders in standardizing workflows and promoting best practices across ambulatory care sites. Support implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines, protocols, and care standards. Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for clinical procedures, infection prevention, patient safety, and scope of practice questions. Conduct clinical observations and rounding activities to assess adherence to established standards and identify coaching opportunities. Facilitate training related to new clinical initiatives, equipment, workflows, policies, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with Nursing Leadership to establish annual education priorities and workforce development strategies. Partner with Population Health Leadership to support care management, patient outreach, preventive care initiatives, and chronic disease management programs. Work closely with Quality Leadership to align educational activities with organizational quality goals and accreditation standards. Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and workgroups as assigned. Provide recommendations to leadership regarding staff development needs, competency trends, and educational priorities. Policy and Regulatory Compliance: Assist in the development, review, revision, and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and evidence-based care guidelines. Ensure educational programs reflect current regulatory, accreditation, and professional practice standards. Maintain documentation of training activities, competencies, certifications, and continuing education records as required. Support organizational readiness for regulatory surveys, audits, and accreditation reviews. Program Administration and Evaluation: Maintain a centralized repository of educational resources, training records, competency validation tools, and reference materials. Develop and track key performance indicators related to training effectiveness, competency completion, onboarding success, and staff development. Prepare reports and presentations related to educational initiatives, quality outcomes, and workforce development activities. Manage multiple projects and educational initiatives while meeting established timelines and organizational priorities. Additional Responsibilities: Foster a collaborative, patient-centered environment that supports team-based care and staff engagement. Remain current with developments in ambulatory care, nursing practice, adult learning principles, quality improvement methodologies, and regulatory requirements. Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational objectives and patient care excellence. Qualifications and Education Requirements: One of the following combinations of education and employment experience must be met in order to be considered for the position: Education and Experience: An active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is strongly preferred; minimum active, unrestricted LPN required. 5–7 years of clinical nursing experience required; outpatient or ambulatory care experience strongly preferred. 1–2 years of supervisory, leadership, or staff development experience preferred. Epic or other electronic health record (EHR) experience highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to effectively present and facilitate training sessions for groups of 25 or more participants.
