Associate I Payroll

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Analyst with recent corporate payroll tax experience supporting multi-state payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with payroll tax compliance, payroll tax notices, tax account management, payroll tax reconciliations, and partnering with payroll tax providers. Experience with enterprise payroll systems such as Workforce Now, SmartCompliance, Workday, Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, UKG, Ceridian Dayforce, or iSolved is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and maintain multi-state payroll tax activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Investigate, respond to, and resolve payroll tax notices from tax agencies.
• Register, maintain, and update state withholding, unemployment, and local payroll tax accounts.
• Partner with payroll tax providers (e.g. SmartCompliance) to ensure timely tax filings and payments.
• Perform payroll tax reconciliations and resolve payroll tax discrepancies.
• Ensure timely filing of payroll tax returns and compliance with all payroll tax reporting requirements.
• Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing.
• Research payroll tax regulations and implement compliance updates.
• Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Finance, vendors, and tax agencies to resolve payroll tax issues.
• Maintain payroll tax documentation and support audits.
• Assist with payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of corporate payroll tax experience.
• Hands-on experience with multi-state payroll tax processing.
• Experience handling payroll tax notices and agency correspondence.
• Experience with payroll tax compliance, reconciliations, and tax account management.
• Experience working with payroll tax providers.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
• Strong MS Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Workforce Now and SmartCompliance.
• Experience with Workday, Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, UKG, Ceridian Dayforce, or iSolved.
• Experience with payroll system implementations or conversions.
• Experience supporting year-end payroll processing, including W-2 preparation.
• Experience with payroll audits and compliance reporting.
