Director: ACC Infrastructure Academy

Job Title Director: ACC Infrastructure Academy Job Summary Provides strategic and operational leadership for Austin Community College’s (ACC) Skilled Workforce Training initiatives. The Director is responsible for aligning Continuing Education (CE) programs with credit‑bearing career pathways, developing partnerships with industry and community stakeholders, and, in coordination with the Dean, overseeing the ACC Infrastructure Academy. This position supports the college’s mission of expanding access to high‑demand, high‑wage careers in the skilled trades and built‑environment sectors. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans to align skilled technical workforce Continuing Education programs with ACC’s credit programs and guided pathways in fields such as Automotive Technology, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Welding, Building Construction, Architectural & Engineering Computer Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS), Geospatial Engineering, and related programs. Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and quality standards for workforce training programs. Oversee daily operations, partnerships, and strategic growth of the ACC Infrastructure Academy, ensuring training aligns with workforce needs and employer expectations. Coordinate with ACC Dean of Applied Technologies, divisional department chairs, and faculty to facilitate articulation agreements and stackable credentials between CE and credit programs, enabling seamless student transitions. Develop and manage partnerships with industry, labor unions, workforce boards, municipal agencies, and community‑based organizations to enhance program offerings, student support services, and job placement opportunities. Develop customized workforce training solutions and employer‑sponsored training partnerships that support regional workforce needs and contribute to institutional workforce development goals. Lead outreach and recruitment initiatives aimed at increasing participation and promoting skilled workforce programs, including proactive engagement with middle and high school students to promote ACC as a clear and accessible pathway to construction and infrastructure careers. Oversee, supervise, and evaluate training coordinators, assigned staff, and contractors in the planning, scheduling, and delivery of skilled technical workforce training courses, ensuring high‑quality instruction, strong student outcomes, and alignment with regional workforce needs and industry demand. Develop, administer, and monitor departmental and grant‑funded budgets; approve expenditures and ensure compliance with ACC fiscal policies. Identify funding opportunities and support grant development efforts in collaboration with ACC’s grant office and external partners. Collaborate with ACC’s Marketing and Public Information Office to promote skilled workforce programs and Infrastructure Academy initiatives through targeted campaigns and events. Represent ACC at local and regional workforce boards, chambers of commerce, city planning meetings, and other public forums focused on economic development and skilled workforce planning. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), prepare reports, and make data‑informed decisions to support program growth and continuous improvement. Monitor workforce and student outcomes including enrollment, completion, credential attainment, employment placement, wage progression, and industry engagement metrics to ensure program effectiveness and alignment with labor market demand. Job Requirements Knowledge: Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, file management, form design; principles for providing customer and personal services; basic college‑level administration; effective communication techniques; operation of standard office equipment; familiarity with college policies and procedures. Supplemental Knowledge: Workforce development strategies, labor market trends, performance‑based outcome measurement, labor market data tools (e.g., EMSI/Burning Glass, Texas LMI); knowledge of skilled technical workforce and built‑environment sectors, industry certifications, licensing requirements, emerging workforce trends; community college systems, CE‑to‑credit integration, stackable credential models, guided career pathways, curriculum design principles, instructional design, and effective workforce training delivery. Skills: Decision making based on thorough analysis and sound judgment; strong interpersonal skills, tact, discretion; effective leadership, team building, and customer orientation; organizational and planning skills; confidentiality; ability to maintain a schedule and work nights and weekends; proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, database, presentation software, query and control languages, web technology, client‑server technology, data extraction, reporting, and testing applications; proficiency in learning management systems (Blackboard, Canvas); grant writing, funding development, and proposal activities; partnership building with industry, workforce boards, labor organizations, community stakeholders; strong project management and multi‑priority handling. Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher. Preferred: Master’s degree in Education, Workforce Development, Applied Technologies, or related field. Experience: Five (5) years of related experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Preferred: Demonstrated success in program development, Continuing Education‑to‑credit alignment, partnership management, career pathway and curriculum integration across training and academic programs; complex initiative management; budgeting; grant development; public‑private partnership development; stakeholder engagement; financial and operational management. Physical Requirements Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds. Travel within the region and occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Work is performed in a standard office or educational environment.
