Caretaker/Steward

Position Overview

The Old Newgate Coon Club, a private sporting club in Norfolk, Connecticut, is seeking a professional and service-oriented Caretaker/ Steward to oversee daily operations of the clubhouse facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, managing beverage inventory, and ensuring an exceptional experience for members and guests. The Steward is expected to provide attentive, personalized service while upholding all applicable sanitation and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide beverages, and lodging services to members and guests during normal operating hours, as requested.

· Maintain permittee status in accordance with Connecticut liquor control requirements and provide bar service during normal working hours.

· Work with vendors to order beer, wine, liquor, and nonalcoholic beverages as needed. Maintain monthly inventory records and collaborate closely with the Bar Chairperson to determine pricing and product selection.

· Ensure that all guest rooms, bathrooms, kitchen areas, and the general interior of the clubhouse are clean, orderly, and consistently well maintained.

· Maintain exterior grounds and lawn areas and ensure that front and back porches are clean and free of snow and ice.

Qualifications

· Must reside full-time in the clubhouse apartment provided by the club.

· Demonstrate organizational skills, with the ability to follow executive direction, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

· Experience in hospitality, or related service is preferred.

Schedule

· Regular days off are Monday and Tuesday. Outside of those days, the Steward is expected to maintain availability to meet member service needs.

Salary

· Minimum wage for hours worked, payable on the third Tuesday of each month. Applicable state and federal payroll withholdings will be handled by the Club.

· Paid time off.

Compensation

· Rent-free five-room apartment with utilities included plus personal use of the main-floor kitchen facilities.
