Assistant Coach, Men's Golf – Santa Clara University Position Type: Regular Hiring Range: $73,794.00. Compensation based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity. Pay Frequency: Annual Position Purpose The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach and assists in all aspects of running a Division I Men’s Golf program including game preparation, coaching, practice planning, recruitment, program administration, academic integrity, and donor relations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Foster a competitive, inclusive, and values‑driven team culture that supports student‑athlete development on and off the course. Ensure a safe, supportive, and growth‑oriented environment for student‑athletes, prioritizing their physical, mental, and emotional well‑being. Design and execute comprehensive practice plans and individual player development workouts. Implement effective teaching methodologies to enhance skill development and team performance. Integrate scouting analysis into practice sessions, preparing players for upcoming opponents through tailored drills and strategies. Provide mentorship to support student‑athletes’ personal and professional growth. Recruit student‑athletes in accordance with admissions, financial, and regulatory standards set by the University, WCC, and NCAA. Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current on coaching techniques and recruiting best practices. Collaborate with the Head Coach to design drills that enhance team performance and player skill development. Assist in the management of all administrative functions related to the Men’s Golf program, adhering to university and departmental policies. Collaborate with academic and compliance staff to meet academic and compliance expectations. Coordinate with athletic training, sports performance, sports psychology, and nutrition staff to support athlete care. Adhere to all administrative procedures established by the University and Athletics Department. Coordinate scheduling, contests, and facility usage with the designated administrator. Support fundraising and external efforts, including donor and alumni engagement. Represent the University, fostering a positive image and strengthening relationships with alumni and the broader community. Participate in recruiting efforts to attract high‑quality student‑athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA, WCC, and University policies. Maintain knowledge of NCAA, state, and federal financial aid policies to guide student‑athletes through the financial aid process. Stay updated on evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape, including NIL opportunities and revenue‑sharing models. Assist in managing the program’s annual operating budget in accordance with University policies. Partner with the Athletics Business Office to promote responsible financial management. Attend compliance seminars, departmental coach meetings, and maintain current CPR certification. Provide work direction to a graduate assistant as needed. General Guidelines Demonstrate and uphold professional standards and office culture guidelines of the Department of Athletics. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of NCAA, WCC, and University policies and regulations. Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship. Represent Santa Clara University in the community to enhance its reputation. Attend compliance training, reviews, and certifications; attend department staff meetings. Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Apply effective problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and maintain confidentiality. Qualifications Knowledge of Men’s Golf, NCAA regulations, and the Jesuit tradition of education. Strong communication skills within the Department of Athletics. Ability to monitor expenses and manage fiscal responsibility. Ability to interact positively with student‑athletes, students, coaches, administrators, and staff. Bachelor’s degree required. Title commensurate with experience; 1–3 years coaching experience at the Division I level required. International coaching experience preferred. Physical Demands Considerable time at a desk using a computer terminal. Considerable time on the course instructing students. Extensive travel for competitions and recruiting. May be required to demonstrate athletic activities or tour the campus with students. Work Environment Typical office environment. Athletic facilities and arenas.
