Behavior Support SpecialistThe behavior Support Specialist is responsible for providing training, support, and coordination of activities to assist school personnel with the behavioral needs of students.Qualifications: Master's degree in Behavior, Counseling, or Psychology: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT) preferred; A minimum of three (3) years' experience with assessment, planning, training, and execution of various behavioral/mental health interventions involving students in an instructional/school environment; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults (written and oral); Ability to apply critical thinking skills and recommendations in rendering solutions to address behavioral needs; Ability to develop and maintain positive, professional working relationships with all students, staff, administrators, and community partners.Performance Responsibilities: Consults with administrators and teachers regarding behavior needs and recommendations; Interprets functional behavior analysis and multi-faceted behaviors; Develops, monitors, and evaluates data collection; Conducts classroom observations and provides suggestions for interventions; Effectively utilizes available technology for the development of professional learning activities; Provides opportunities to model interventions and strategies for school personnel; Provides job-embedded professional learning, technical assistance, and support for school personnel to address Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and classroom management; Serves as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Response to Intervention (RTI) team as needed; Reviews special education paperwork to monitor behavior plans; Provides referral services for the mental needs of students and families; Participates in the state, district, and other professional learning opportunities to strengthen skill sets needed to assist district departments and schools; Perform other duties as determined by the Supervisor.Reports To: Director of the Exceptional Students ProgramSalary Range: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
