HVAC / Refrigeration Technician (Union) - NSS

Job OverviewInstalls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, and operates HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) systems and related equipment, including compressors, pumps, condensers, piping, motors, controls, and air distribution systems. Performs operational testing, system adjustments, and preventive/corrective maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Duties:Overhaul and rebuild refrigeration equipment, including valves, springs, couplings, piping, packing, and related componentsLoad refrigeration mediums such as Freon and ammonia into HVAC/R systems as requiredPerform sheet metal work associated with HVAC duct systemsAnalyze equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actionsReplace mechanical and electrical components including fuses, heat elements, thermostats, and control unitsOperate and monitor built-up air conditioning and refrigeration systems during startup, shutdown, and normal operationsInspect HVAC/R systems and components to identify defects, leaks, or malfunctionsRead and interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications, and maintenance documentationUse hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instruments to perform maintenance and repairsPerform other duties as assignedKey Responsibilities:Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul HVAC/R equipment and systemsDiagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational malfunctions in refrigeration and air conditioning systemsPerform system adjustments and operational checks to maintain proper temperatures, pressures, and airflowSupport safe, efficient, and reliable operation of refrigeration and HVAC systemsPerform work in compliance with applicable safety standards, procedures, and operational requirementsProvide guidance and assistance to lower-graded employees as assignedIdentify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, performance, and customer serviceJob RequirementsMandatory:Up to 5 years of HVAC/R or refrigeration maintenance experienceWorking knowledge of refrigeration mechanics, HVAC/R systems, and associated controlsAbility to read and interpret maintenance blueprints, sketches, and specificationsExperience using hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instrumentsAbility to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical system failuresAbility to work independently and in a team environmentAbility to work outside normal schedules, including peak periods and surge requirementsRegular attendance in accordance with established work schedulesProfessional conduct and adherence to workplace safety standardsAbility to obtain and maintain required certifications applicable to the positionValid driver's license when operating company vehicles is requiredPhysical Requirements:Moderate physical effort required for sustained periods while handling light to medium-weight parts and equipmentAbility to work in awkward positions and climb on or around equipmentAbility to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined or elevated spaces as requiredAbility to work in industrial and outdoor environments under varying conditionsDisclosuresChugach Government Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
