Central Supply Sterile Processing Technician

Schedule/Shift

8-hour rotating shifts with flexibility required for evening and night shifts. A minimum of every other weekend is necessary.

Assignment Duration

This is a short-term position expected to last 6 weeks, with a critical start required within the next week.

Job Description

The Central Supply Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective reprocessing of surgical instruments and endoscopic equipment. This role will require float capabilities across various service lines to meet patient care needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, preparation and packaging of surgical instruments.
• Execute steam and low-temperature sterilization processes.
• Process GI endoscopes and familiarize with Olympus scopes and washer systems.
• Ensure timely case pick and sterilization for surgical needs.
• Maintain an understanding of and ability to process various service lines, including but not limited to robotics, general, cardiac, and orthopedic.
• Work efficiently with loaner trays and various surgical instruments, including DaVinci Robot Xi components.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must possess a CRCST certification from HSPA; other certifications such as CER, CIS, and CHL are preferred.
• A minimum of five years of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience is required.
• Experience working in a level 1 academic medical center with 20 or more operating rooms.
• Ability to process minor and major instrument sets within specified time limits, and experience with high-level disinfection for flexible scopes.
