University of Washington: Academic Personnel & Faculty: University of Washington, Bothell: Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics: Biological Sciences Location Bothell, WA Open Date Jul 16, 2026 Description The Biological Sciences Department of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications for a Lecturer Part-Time Temporary position, with an anticipated start date to align with the annual academic calendar – Autumn: September 16-December 15 2026; Winter: December 16 2026-March 15 2027; and Spring: March 16-June 15 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching in a diverse and inclusive academic community. This is a short-term, temporary instructional position that may be needed at various points throughout the 2026-27 academic year (Sept 16-Jun 15). The successful candidate will join our faculty on a part-time variable %FTE basis for a quarter (3-month) basis. This is a non-tenure track, non-voting eligible faculty title that is renewable on a quarterly basis, and is contingent upon instructional needs, part time faculty reappointment guidelines, and department approval. The base salary range for this position will be $6,000 - $6,860 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This full-time monthly rate is then prorated based on assigned FTE for the duration of the 3-month quarter. A successful candidate will be expected to teach a course and possibly laboratory courses within their field of expertise in Biology. Candidates should list the courses they are qualified to teach due to courses they have taken, their field of research, and especially past teaching experience. The cumulative instructional need currently for the 2026-27 Academic Year is as follows: BBIO351 Lab - Principles of Anatomy and Physiology I BBIO360 - Genetics BBIO370A - Microbiology BST301 - Scientific Writing BBIO383/CSS383 - Bioinformatics BEARTH154 – Introduction to Oceanography Occasionally, unanticipated changes occur, which would require us to fill courses that are not on this list. For more information on the courses listed above, please reference the relevant section: The department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant and growing community comprised of twelve full-time faculty. Our biology major was established in 2010 and graduates approximately 200 undergraduate students each year. Each of our undergraduates participates in research, either within a faculty member’s research program, through an internship, or in the Investigative Biology course. The Biological Sciences faculty have recently moved into Innovation Hall, which is a new building including new labs, and facilities for plants, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell culture. The campus also has a 1600 sq ft greenhouse adjacent to a 52-acre restored wetland on campus; and a new environmental education center at St. Edwards State Park (EERC), all of which contribute to our mission of high-quality undergraduate education and research. We believe students learn biology best by engaging in the scientific process, and we are committed to teaching practices that foster learning in students from a variety of backgrounds, including students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in science. The School of STEM is the largest school at UW Bothell, and we are a school committed to attracting faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience in support of our core values of Collaboration, Opportunities, Responsibility, and Engagement. Our faculty members are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies. We offer seventeen degrees (fourteen undergraduate, three graduate), eleven minors, and two graduate certificates across four Departments (Biological Sciences, Computing and Software Systems, Engineering & Mathematics, Physical Sciences). The school is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus collocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, and our new 80,000 square-foot STEM building, Innovation Hall – the first shared academic building between a community college and university in the country. Located in the heart of the Puget Sound region, the University of Washington Bothell is one of the most dynamic public universities in the state of Washington.
