Cafeteria Assistant

7 hours per day at West Cottonwood Cafeteria - Supporting cafeteria food prep and serving on our Food Truck Breakfast service and Cafeteria Lunch service for 5th through 8th grade students. 6am to 1:30pm Monday to Friday during school days. This position does qualify for prorated Benefits.

Under general supervision, to maintain food service areas; facilities and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition. Perform routine tasks in the preparation and serving of food in a cafeteria and assist in the overall operation and maintenance of a school cafeteria. Incumbents must have a good understanding of the policies and operations of an elementary school cafeteria and be able to apply it effectively when interacting with students, parents, staff, and public. The intensity of the school environment is a factor that requires poise, stamina, and good organizational skills. Works within the framework of established policies and procedures with the requirement to select the appropriate procedure according to the situation.

May operate a cash register/computer Receive and count money Maintain cafeteria records Prepare and Review Routine forms and reports Set-up, disassemble, clean and operate food cart(s) and other food service equipment Dispense food in proper proportions, maintain food, milk and/or supply counts. Maintain proper food storage and assist in the rotation and storage of food and supplies; Receive orders and put items away in proper locations; restock necessary items. Assist in loading, unloading food Lift heavy containers of food and supplies Observe safe and sanitary procedures and practices; Supervise students in the cafeteria; maintain the kitchen in a safe, clean and orderly working environment; Perform related duties as assigned

General application, and serving foods; basic kitchen utensils and equipment; safe and sanitary procedures and practices relating to food services, kitchen and materials. Use weights and measuring devices; work cooperatively and safely with others in the course of job performance; be flexible to changing work patterns and schedule; perform simple arithmetical calculations; understand and follow written and oral directions; count money, make change and operate a cash register/computer; establish and maintain effective working relations with those you interact with throughout the course of the day.

High School graduate.

With or without the use of aids: sufficient vision to read printed materials; sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations; sufficient capability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversations; sufficient manual dexterity to use telephone and operate office equipment and sufficient strength to perform lifting requirement of specific assignment. Indoor and occasionally outdoor work environment. Possible exposure to childhood communicable diseases. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.

Ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certification issued by the County Health Department and maintain the certification during course of employment. This may be substituted with a Food Protection Managers Certificate.
