Registered Nurse (Community Living Center 215-3)

Overview The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking one highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for our busy In‑Patient Community Living Centers (CLC) on the Day Shift. The RN will use the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate, and deliver nursing care for patients within the CLC setting. Responsibilities Utilize the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate, and deliver nursing care to patients in the CLC. Basic Requirements English language proficiency (both written and spoken). In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Graduate of a professional nursing school approved by an accrediting agency such as ACEN or CCNE. Individuals enrolled in a master’s level bridge program who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree may be considered. Graduates of foreign professional nursing schools meeting VA equivalency requirements. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception Candidates who meet education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed at entry level as a GNT on a 120‑day temporary appointment, extendable up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis while pursuing licensure. Grandfathering Provision All persons currently employed in VHA in the 0610 series and performing the duties described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held, including positive education and licensure/certification. Grade Determinations The following scope, education, and dimension criteria determine grade assignment. The dimensions include Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence‑Based Practice/Research. Please refer to the online assessment for detailed level requirements: Education and Experience Requirements by Grade Nurse I, Level I – Deliver fundamental, knowledge‑based care. • Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing. Nurse I, Level II – Integrate biopsychosocial concepts with basic or complex care. • ADN or Diploma + 1 year specialized experience; or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional experience. Nurse I, Level III – Demonstrates proficiency in managing complex client situations. • ADN or Diploma + 2 years experience (1 year equivalent to Level II); or BSN + 1 year experience; or Master’s degree with no additional experience.
