Circulation AssistantLocation: ChardonHours/FLSA status: 20 hours part-time non-exempt, Flexible scheduling with day, afternoon, and evening availability including weekends.Reports to: Head of Circulation and Shelving StaffSupervised: NoneRate of Pay: $14.00Position Summary: Provides direct public service and performs circulation duties associated with the operation of the library.Essential Job Functions:Provides direct service to the public, in person or over the telephone.Assists patrons by accurately checking in and out library materials and monitors assistance needed at the self-checkoutAssists patrons with reserving study rooms and conference roomsProvides general information about the library, refers patrons to appropriate personnel for assistanceChecks in interlibrary delivery bins, processes holds, and packs outgoing bins.Inputs new patron registrations and updates patron recordsCollects, counts and verifies all monies.Checks email during every shift and reads Branching Out, email, and staff intranet to stay informedMaintains copy machine and cash register.Knows policies, procedures and safety training.Library tasks performed on a regular basis:Reconciles daily cash register money and sends in delivery.Maintains clean appearance of circulation desk and staff kitchen.Prints and processes daily hold shelf reportsPerforms necessary tasks involved in opening and closing building.Performs the following tasks as required:Empties book drop as needed on closed days.Attends required and continuing education classesHandles voter registration paperworkOrders supplies, processes mail, mend items as needed.Assists patrons with copy/fax machineSchedules meeting roomsOversees display of public information in lobbyPerforms monthly Safety Inspection of buildingOther duties as assigned.Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Characteristics:Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing work environment.Must have basic computer skills.Ability to use and maintain office machines including computer and cash register.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent.Successful completion of background check.Physical Requirements:Work is generally performed in an office-like environment but with need for mobility: bending, stooping, stretching and sitting at a variety of desks and services points with or without mobility aids.Able to lift at least 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.Ability to move and maneuver full book carts, which may involve pushing, pulling, or using assistive devicesCompetence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.
