Controller - Insurance

Controller – Insurance Salary: $125,000–$145,000 + Benefits Austin, Texas Certus Recruitment is partnering with a long-established and financially strong professional liability insurance provider looking to appoint an experienced Controller. This is a hands‑on leadership role with responsibility for the organization's accounting operations, statutory financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, you'll lead a small accounting team while remaining closely involved in the detail. What you'll be doing: Maintaining financial records in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) Preparing quarterly and annual statutory financial statements Managing financial reporting, regulatory filings and compliance Overseeing accounting operations and general ledger functions Supervising staff responsible for AP, AR and HR-related accounting activities Preparing and filing state premium tax returns Coordinating federal income tax filings with external advisors Managing the annual audit process Monitoring and managing company cash flow Providing financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership What we're looking for: Active CPA – essential Minimum 5 years' statutory insurance accounting experience – essential Experience preparing Yellow Book statements – essential Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline Strong Microsoft Excel skills Experience leading a small accounting team Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines Experience with Clearwater investment accounting software and broader insurance regulatory reporting would be advantageous.
