Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team.
Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems.
The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response.
The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by assisting them to transition through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays.
The RN delegates interventions based on each patient's condition and the competencies of the healthcare personnel.
This job encompasses RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments that require 24/7 staffing.
Examples of these areas include GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, and IV Services.


Essential Functions:
Using clinical reasoning, the RN conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards.
The RN identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs.
The RN develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing plan of care.
Modifications to the plan are made as needed to meet clinical outcomes.
The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, including nursing-sensitive indicators.
The RN supports evidence-based practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning.
Participation in quality and performance improvement initiatives is expected.
The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
The RN develops therapeutic relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Emotional and physical pain management is also a key aspect of the role, aimed at promoting comfort and preventing unnecessary suffering.
The RN recognizes and incorporates each patient's unique differences into their individualized plan of care.
The RN advocates for patient confidentiality, dignity, and rights.
They create a plan that reflects patient and family values.
The RN assists in identifying and resolving ethical and clinical concerns.
Facilitation of learning is crucial, as the RN provides education to patients, families, and fellow healthcare team members.
Collaboration with colleagues is vital for developing and implementing an integrated plan of care.
