Surgical Technologist-LOC 10th FL OR-Day Shift (37.5 Hours)

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Surgical Technologist (LOC 10th FL OR-Day Shift, 37.5 Hours). The successful candidate under the direction of a licensed professional nurse scrubs on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room and assists the physician in procedural areas. Job Responsibilities Clinical Takes initiative to make recommendations to leadership for new and updates to physician preference cards timely and accurately for patients/physicians. Utilizes patient procedure and position to determine the plan of care. Anticipates and gathers needed supplies and equipment prior to care based on procedure preference card and escalates outstanding needs with the RN Circulator. Demonstrates knowledge of use, care and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Under the supervision of the circulating RN, assists on procedures as a secondary circulator. Reports unexpected events and outcomes to RN staff and leadership in a timely fashion (e.g., count, specimen, breaks in aseptic techniques). Provides on‑call coverage proficiently where applicable. Care of Specimens In collaboration with the registered nurse, ensures specimens are appropriately identified and labeled. Regulatory, Quality & Performance Improvement, Safety Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department and service line. Contributes to quality and performance improvement programs and unit/service specific metrics, data collection and projects (e.g., turnover times, on‑time starts, Time Out, patient satisfaction, instrumentation, waste, sustainability, ACA/RCA). Participates in programs and activities to promote satisfaction of patients, families, staff and other disciplines. Incorporates new practices identified in patient care standards into plan of care. Responds to changes in patient care and standards; demonstrates awareness of JCAHO, DOH, CARF and AST standards. Communication Interacts with respect and in a positive manner. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships. Gives a thorough report to RN Circulator, relief scrub person and leadership concerning count, equipment, instrumentation or outcomes. Demonstrates professional responsibilities and accountabilities as a team member. Development Accepts responsibilities and demonstrates accountability for own actions. Utilizes resources to meet individual learning needs (e.g., standards, procedure preferences). Seizes opportunity for learning experiences for oneself or to be shared with others. Guides staff and students to use clinical resources to enhance knowledge. Participates in orientation of new and current staff to the scrub role intraoperatively. Active participant in Clinical Preceptor program. Participates in providing feedback as requested. Engages in self‑assessment and participates in activities to promote professional growth and development; seeks new clinical experiences and communicates to leadership. Fulfills annual mandatory education program requirements, obtains and maintains certification, and is a member of the organization. Accepts constructive criticism and seeks ways for a positive change in behavior. Performs duties as assigned. Financial Recognizes the importance of cost effectiveness in delivery of patient care. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. BLS required (American Heart Association). Must graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA. Certification required upon hire. Required Licenses Cert Surgical Technologist, Basic Life Support Cert Preferred Qualifications One‑to‑two year experience as a certified surgical technologist in a large complex operating room. NYU Surgical Tech Program graduate. Recent orthopedic sports‑medicine operating room experience. Salary Salary range: $86,936.43 – $114,327.36 annually, based on experience, specialty and education.
