We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.About The Role:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Avionics Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of the next generation of hypersonic vehicles. As a Lead Avionics Engineer at Hermeus, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design, analysis, and testing of electrical systems for our hypersonic vehicles. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our electrical systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership across the organization, manage related risk and change across the program, drive new technology introduction, and provide mentoring for less senior engineers.Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test.Create development and qualification testing campaigns and exercise designs to their limits.Support hardware through production, integration, and flight.Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable. Challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships.RequirementsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: electrical hardware design, control systems, instrumentation and signal conditioning, digital communication busses, analog design and simulation, power electronics, harness design1+ years leading a technical engineering team.Preferred Skills and Experience:Breadth of experience across various electrical technical fields including RF, digital, analog, and video systemsDemonstrated project experience with embedded design, device integration, V&V, environmental qualification and/or flight testingHands-on experience designing, building, and/or servicing electrical power distribution systems and/or networksFamiliarity with test and simulation tools (DMM, Oscilloscope, power supplies, SPICE, Ansys)Experience with electrical and mechanical design and version control software (Altium Designer, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Capital Harness, Git, Teamcenter)Experience with avionics devices and protocols (RS-485, ARINC-685, FPGAs, GPS, INS, D38999 style connectors, etc.)Strong analysis and troubleshooting skillsFamiliarity with aerospace industry standards (IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, DO-160G)Experience working with DC power systems (Batteries, Motors, Generators, etc.)Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skillsWriting software in Python or similar for analysis or data reviewA bias towards action, and a willingness to work hands-on to make it happenAbility to travel on short notice to support test campaigns$138,550 - $187,450 a yearThe salary range listed for this role is intended as a general guideline.
