Application Engineer-Automotive

General Scope

The Port Fuel Injection (PFI) Applications Engineer is responsible for providing application-level engineering support for fuel injection products to ensure optimal performance, validation, and resolution of technical issues throughout the product lifecycle. This role serves as a key technical liaison among engineering, testing, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams, with strong emphasis on problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities and Duties

• Design, develop, and optimize remanufacturing processes for Hydraulically Actuated Unit Diesel Injectors and Common Rail Diesel Injectors.
• Provide application engineering support for Port Fuel Injection products and assigned programs.
• Investigate product performance concerns, including test failures, flow audit discrepancies, and field-related incidents.
• Lead and support root cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions for engineering and product issues.
• Prepare, maintain, and update formal technical documentation, including incident reports, audit summaries, engineering change updates, and technical findings.
• Participate in recurring engineering activities such as EPO meetings, Gemba walks, and program reviews, while effectively communicating project and issue status to stakeholders.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure shipment readiness, process efficiency, and product quality.
• Coordinate with internal laboratories, quality teams, and external suppliers to resolve technical and product-related concerns.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, process robustness, and application reliability.

Working Conditions

• Office-based engineering environment with regular collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
• Frequent interaction with engineering, manufacturing, quality, laboratory, supply chain, and IT personnel.
• Occasional support outside regular working hours during critical production issues, testing activities, or product launches.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or related field


5 + years' Experience in application engineering, product support, or validation engineering


Experience involving design, validation, and manufacturing process of DIESEL engine Common Rail diesel fuel injector: automotive diesel fuel injection systems: performance of root cause analyses of diesel fuel system failures and design of diesel injector internal components with 3D SolidWorks and generation of engineering drawings using GD&T.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Ability to document technical issues clearly and professionally
• Effective communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred

• Automotive fuel systems or engine systems experience
• Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and audit response
• Familiarity with production launch and sustaining engineering support
• Experience collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing organizations
