ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, PRACTICE GROUPS

The Federalist Society, a DC-based non-profit organization that seeks to inform the legal and public policy debate on a national level, seeks an Assistant Director for our Practice Groups Division. The ideal candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with an interest in legal and judicial issues and a commitment to the mission of The Federalist Society (FedSoc.org). Candidates should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with short-term and long-term deadlines. The position requires strong research, writing, editing, organizational, and administrative skills. A bachelor’s degree is required. This position is ideal for someone who is either a recent college graduate or has 1-3 years of experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Practice Group Coordinator: Who are the Practice Groups? A collection of expert attorneys and policymakers organized around various policy and legal fields. Assist Practice Groups Vice President in all areas, including launching high-priority projects, planning and promoting events, soliciting articles, and organizing working groups. Schedule and plan Practice Group Executive Committee calls. Manage calendar invites for Executive Committee calls made up of 20-50 members. Create and maintain agendas for Practice Group Executive Committee calls and motivate members in event creation. Hold regular calls with the Vice President to review agendas, promote events, invite speakers, and support Practice Group activities. Communicate regularly with Practice Group Executive Committee members. Generate mailing lists and manage weekly and other mass mailings via Constant Contact and other platforms. FedSoc Forums, Webinars, and Virtual Events: What is a FedSoc Forum? The Society hosts approximately 150-200 webinars annually on topical legal and public policy issues, attended by 30 to 550 participants, typically lasting an hour and including up to four speakers and Q&A sessions. Oversee and host webinar calls, including introducing programs and speakers, monitoring Zoom, and ending calls. Moderate Q&A sessions, operate Zoom features, troubleshoot issues, and respond to speakers as needed. Coordinate pre- and post-event communications with speakers, including attendance updates. Promote webinars through event pages and email campaigns to 10,000-60,000 members. In-Person and Virtual Event Management: Assist in identifying relevant speakers and ensuring diverse panels. Coordinate logistics with the Events and Digital Divisions for room bookings and promotion. Create promotional materials and oversee live event execution. Serve as the main contact for speakers and ensure smooth panel operations during conferences. National Lawyers Convention/Executive Branch Review Conference: Coordinate Practice Group panels and showcase sessions for upcoming conventions, working with Vice President and Practice Groups to ensure balanced, high-profile panels. Draft and refine panel topics and act as main contact for panelists. Manage panel coordination in the lead-up to the events, including advertising and speaker engagement.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency in Google Suite (Sheets, Docs). Experience in marketing and familiarity with Salesforce is a plus. Ability to send bulk emails with basic design skills. Confidence in public speaking for hosting webinars and events. Creative and problem-solving skills, with an eye for system improvements. Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
