Sterile Processing Supervisor

The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for supervising and leading the staff in sterile processing areas, ensuring compliance with standards, and enhancing department operations. This role demands strong leadership skills and a focus on patient safety and infection prevention protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervision and Leadership (30%):
  • Directly supervise Lead Technicians and Non-Certified Technicians across all sterile processing work areas including decontamination, prep/pack, sterilization, and storage.
  • Assign daily tasks based on workload and case volume to optimize departmental efficiency.
  • Oversee instrument tracking systems, ensuring documentation accuracy and inventory control.
  • Collaborate with Educators and Managers on staff orientation and training plans.
• Department Advancement (30%):
  • Coordinate daily operations to meet surgical and procedural case demands.
  • Monitor instrument availability and case cart readiness.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and workflow issues in real-time.
  • Ensure segregation of clean/dirty workflows and adherence to infection prevention practices.
  • Maintain compliance with AAMI ST79, AORN guidelines, CDC recommendations, and regulatory standards.
• Coordination and Management of Specialty Services (30%):
  • Audit tray assembly accuracy, count sheets, and labeling requirements.
  • Address service concerns and implement service recovery as required.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings related to instrumentation and quality initiatives.
• Sterile Processing Duties (10%):
  • Monitor adherence to infection control, safety, and universal precautions across the department.
  • Organize, store, and distribute instruments and medical supplies to ensure availability.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization processes.
  • Perform decontamination and sterilization of instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing experience.
• Prior leadership experience required.
• Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems preferred.
• National certification (CBSPD and/or CRCST HSPA) required.
• BLS certification not required.

Additional Notes: Level 1 trauma experience is required. Experience in sterilization, decontamination, and assembly/wrapping is essential. Preferred case experience includes neuro, GU, robotics, ENT, orthopedic, transplant, and GYN procedures.

This position requires participation in emergency response teams, which includes readiness for natural disasters. Please be aware that hurricane season runs from June through November with peak activity in August and September.
