Job Summary Provide paraprofessional services in the management of tree, shrub, groundcover and flowers planting, growth and maintenance within an assigned campus area. Recommends selection and purchase of plants, materials and supplies. Provides work direction to grounds keeping personnel. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Facilities supervisors, landscaping supervisors , vendors and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: grounds keeping personnel. This position will supervise: NA. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Lead in implementation of horticultural plans and work programs. Job Duty 2 - Provide work direction and instruction in landscape development and maintenance activities. Job Duty 3 - Recommend purchase landscape related materials and supplies. Job Duty 4 - Monitor the application of pesticides and other chemicals in maintaining landscape and grounds.. Job Duty 5 - Participate in preparation of landscape related reports and presentations. Job Duty 6 - Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Experience Three to four years of job related experience Preferred Qualifications Additional Preferred Qualifications Georgia Commercial Pesticide License, and Category 24 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities ABILITIES Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast-paces environment The job requires occasional travel up to 10% or more of the time and the individual must have the ability to handle object up to 20 lbs or more KNOWLEDGE Landscape maintenance management experience. Community outreach and event/program coordination preferred. Experience with organic gardening practices, including soil health management, crop rotation, and integrated pest management essential SKILLS This job requires basic knowledge of horticultural practices and processes including the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, vegetable gardening, roof top gardening, native landscape, plant selection and cultivation Skills in work leadership and landscape maintenance management are required as is the use of office related computer applications USG Core Values The University System of Georgia is comprised of our 25 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
