National Security Division Law Internship Programs The U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division Office of Law and Policy is offering two law internships for students in Washington, D.C. The internships are available for spring, summer, and fall 2026 schedules and are open to all law students enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school at the time of application and throughout their internship. Eligibility and Qualifications Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school at the time of application and throughout their internship. Strong research and writing skills are required. Prior interest or experience in national security is useful but not required. By the time of the internship all applicants must have completed at least one of the following courses: Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, or Constitutional Law. Additional courses in criminal law, litigation, or national security/intelligence law are helpful. Responsibilities Interns will assist with researching legal questions, drafting memoranda and policy analyses, performing factual research, and supporting presentations and materials. Compensation Unpaid internship. School may provide academic credit or work‑study where applicable.
