Location Land and Materials Administration – Voluntary Cleanup Program 1800 Washington Blvd., Baltimore, MD 21230 Grade 17 Main Purpose To review and evaluate conditions of known or suspected contamination, determine the necessary extent of remediation, and oversee activities at Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) and Controlled Hazardous Substances (CHS) sites. Key Responsibilities Independently evaluate the work of highly trained consultants. Review and comment on technical documents to ensure site assessments and remediations meet health and environmental standards. Draft formal correspondence, including letters, comments on applications, response plans, and site closure documents. Conduct site inspections in hazardous environments such as old landfills, former spill sites, and debris‑strewn locations. Travel to sites throughout the state of Maryland and operate a state vehicle. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Geology, or a related earth science. Three years of professional geological work experience. Alternatively, Master’s degree + one year of required experience. Alternatively, U.S. Armed Forces military service with a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher in a physical science or geology classification, counted one year for each year of education. Desired / Preferred Qualifications Experience reviewing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Experience reviewing Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. Licenses, Registrations & Certifications Valid Maryland driver’s license with no more than five points. Certification in OSHA 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (if required). Special Requirements Ability to walk over rough or unstable terrain while wearing personal protective equipment. Subject to ongoing medical testing per OSHA regulations and the Maryland Department of the Environment Medical Monitoring Program. Availability for 24‑hour call‑in as needed.
