ED Technician

Job Description Performs routine patient/resident care under the supervision of Physicians, Surgeons Assistants and Nurses. Recognizes and reports significant observations. Strives for a variety of opportunities to use clinical skills, offer patient/family teaching and participate in a multidisciplinary approach to care. Responsibilities Assist Physicians, Surgeons Assistants and Nurses, under supervision, in a multitude of patient procedures including, but not limited to, EKGs, phlebotomy, orthopedic splinting, cane and crutch preparation, CPR, defibrillation, catheters, POC Testing/Glucose analyzer, obtaining and recording vital signs and recognizing, reporting and assisting in resolution of life‑threatening conditions. Prepare set‑up for procedures such as suturing, surgery, spinal taps, foley insertion, chest tube insertion, trauma thoracotomy, lavage, slit lamp and orthopedic reduction. Maintain department equipment through testing functions such as cleaning and disinfection after use, set‑up of Pleur‑evac, vents, Gomko and suction devices. Maintain knowledge of current Emergency Department Technology. Assist in examination and management during procedures (i.e., OB/GYN, neurological, respiratory, cardiac, emotional and behavioral, trauma and overdose emergencies). Assist in transporting patients from vehicles, ambulance, wheelchairs and beds utilizing proper inline stabilization, patient positioning, body mechanics and application of extremity and spinal devices. Document patient information necessary for admission, procedures, discharge and transfers. Document all procedures performed and obtain needed medical records information for healthcare team members. Assist the inventory Clerk/Transporters with general clerical duties as needed such as checking, ordering and/or stocking supplies in the Emergency Department and performs. Perform related duties as required. ADA Essential Functions N/A Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Associate’s Degree, preferred. Certification by the New York State Department of Health as an EMT, required. AEMT certification, preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, required, within one (1) year of employment. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute hospital setting or related clinical experience, required. Demonstrated competency in, at least, one of the following, preferred: Electrocardiogram (EKG) testing; venipuncture procedures; and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
