BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for all Intermediate Care for Individual with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) program delivery services and accountable for facility compliance with all Federal and State codes, rules and regulations related to program services.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. In conjunction with program personnel from all departments, ensure the coordinating and devising appropriate Individual Support Plans [ISPs] for each person residing in the facility that comply with all existing Federal and State and facility guidelines, codes, and regulations.

2. Ensure proper monitoring of each person’s ISPs and making changes, as applicable.

3. Ensure inventory and sufficient supplies and materials are available within budgetary constraints of the Program Department.

4. Monitors the facility’s physical environment where training occurs to ensure they are safe, clean, pleasant and decorated in a stimulating motif that promotes normalization and learning.

5. Ensure that program staffing schedules are developed, followed and maintained at expected numbers and that competent staff are employed to carry out the expectations.

6. Supervise all programmatic paperwork to ensure thoroughness, timely submission, as required by regulations and facility policy.

7. Routinely and systematically observes staff performance and completes observation reports as expected by facility protocols.

8. Provide In-Service Training to ensure proper utilization of supplies and materials.

9. Review and approve department requisitions, accident reports, and other reports essential to the operation of the facility.

10. Participate in the development and coordination of a staff development program and ensures sufficient training is offered to staff to maintain and increase their skills and competencies needed to perform their duties.

11. Participate in Committees and team meetings as required by facility management and policies.

12. Coordinate staff and physical resources for the maintenance of effective and affective programming operations.

13. Properly evaluate in an accurate and timely manner the performance of subordinate staff, using the appropriate performance appraisal system.

14. Plans, organizes, develops, implements and interprets the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for the provision of active treatment services to all persons residing in the facility.

15. Must be willing and able to work beyond normal workings hours during the day, weekends and holidays and various shifts as necessary.

16. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs to stay abreast of current trends in the profession and industry.

17. Communicates effectively with the nursing personnel, consultants, and other department supervisors to ensure an interdisciplinary service delivery system is implemented.

18. Must be able to travel to sister facilities, workshops, and out of state. On occasion airplane travel will be required.

19. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Administrator

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

1. Performs clerical functions, such as completing forms, reports, etc., as required.

2. Assist with orientation of new employees in relation to program services.

3. Participates in professional organizations, associations, activities and programs related to the position.

4. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, calm, personal interest and a positive attitude and treats everyone one with dignity and respect.

5. Maintains a professional image in appearance and in the office/work environment.

EXPOSURE RISK

Is at medium risk of exposure to blood and body fluids when actively performing job duties and functions.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to Administrator and/or Assistant Administrator

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises all Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional’s (QIDPs) and other program staff as assigned by the facility administrator, which may include Case Managers, Job Developers, Behaviorists, Recreation staff, Social Workers, Transporters, Shift Supervisors and indirectly, the Direct Support Professionals [DSPs].

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

At least a bachelor’s degree in a Human Services Field from an accredited college. A Master’s Degree in a Human Services Field preferred.

EXPERIENCE

As a minimum, two [2] years’ experience working with the ICF/IID residents. Experience as a QIDP is desired.

GENERAL

When State licensure and/or certification are required for the professional degree held by the PSD, the license must be current and unencumbered.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently throughout the workday.

2. Subject to frequent interruptions.

3. Attends ongoing educational experiences pertaining to the position and/or required for licensure/certification of the professional degree to keep current with trends in the field.

4. May be subject to infectious diseases, waste, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to AIDS and HEPATITIS B viruses.

5. Works beyond normal 8-5 working hours, weekends, holidays, other positions and various shifts.

6. Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the working day.

7. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.

8. Generally will work in an air-conditioned, heated and ventilated building and may work outdoors

 

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

2. Role model professional behavior by performing and/or assisting other staff, supervisors, peers, consultants and direct support staff in an effective, cooperative manner, in all duties.

3. Must be of good moral character.

4. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with all consumers, personnel, residents, families, and visitors, etc.

5. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

6. Must have the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel and be willing to manage persons of various maturity and cognitive abilities.

7. Must have and maintain a valid State of Mississippi drivers’ license and meet the criteria to be insured with the company’s motor vehicle insurance. (This requirement is waived for all current employed PSDs that does not meet this requirement and was hired prior to 11/11/2013).

8. Must have basic computer knowledge and skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (With or without the aid of mechanical devices)

1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

2. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and lift without assistance at least 25 pounds.

3. Must be able to read, write (legibly) and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

4. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

5. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable those senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.

6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

7. May be required to lift, push, and pull.

8. Must have personal integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with others.

9. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile persons including residents, family members, visitors, etc.

10. Must function independently without direct supervision.

11. Must maintain good grooming, personal hygiene skills and appearance.
