Police Officer

The City of Caldwell Police Department is hiring Entry Level and Lateral Police Officers. Officers will perform law enforcement and crime prevention duties, including patrolling assigned areas, interacting with the public, providing educational and investigative services, and developing positive police‑citizen relationships. Entry Level Officers will receive a base hourly wage of $28.70. Lateral Officers will receive an hourly wage ranging from $31.59 to $42.12. Testing will be held on Tuesday, July 28th, and will include a physical readiness test and a written test for Entry Level applicants, and only a physical readiness test for Lateral applicants. Responsibilities Provide an initial response to requests for police services and suppress criminal activity proactively. Respond to reports of suspected violations, burglar alarms, armed robberies, assaults, batteries, disturbances, mental health crises, and other issues; identify situations, mediate disputes, secure crime scenes, and gather evidence. Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; assist with criminal investigations. Provide assistance to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians on traffic violations; patrol assigned area to prevent violations and accidents; conduct traffic stops, perform field sobriety tests, search vehicles, and arrest suspects based on probable cause. Initiate and assist with probable‑cause arrests in compliance with city, state, and federal standards; notify authorities of emergencies and public safety incidents. Assume command responsibility when supervising patrol officers and specialists; write and review reports; maintain rapport with prosecutors, courts, witnesses, and victims; provide court testimony and depositions. Conduct investigations of major crimes, suspects, and crime scenes independently or with other agencies; recover stolen property; coordinate with emergency and related agencies as required. Support community safety through specialized units; collaborate with residents, stakeholders, and city services to address long‑term safety issues; promote a crime‑free school environment. Perform any other duties as assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Equivalent combination of experience and training that provides necessary skills. Valid driver’s license. Subject to a background check. Idaho Peace Officer Standards certification. Ability to work assigned shifts, including holidays, day, swing, graveyard, on‑call, overtime, and call‑back. Applicants must complete and pass the following: Polygraph exam, post‑offer medical examination, physical fitness test, psychological evaluation by a licensed psychologist, and Criminal Justice Information System background check (CJIS). Drug‑free workplace: This safety‑sensitive position requires testing for drug use, including post‑offer applicant testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion, and post‑accident testing.
