Associate General Counsel or Senior Associate General Counsel (HR/Generalist Attorney) - Oahu Company: Hawaiian Electric Companies Provide in‑house legal services for Hawaiian Electric and its subsidiaries with emphasis in areas such as Human Resources, Construction, Federal Contracts, Cyber/Privacy, IT/OT, and Environmental. Monitor work assigned to outside counsel. Associate General Counsel – Responsibilities Provide legal services, including evaluation of complex legal issues and risk assessment, across business and corporate law, federal contracts, public utility regulation, labor and employment law, environmental regulation, real property, construction law, securities, finance, compensation and benefits, litigation, intellectual property, IT/OT, privacy and data protection law, and telecommunications. Develop preventative law programs and deliver training to operational managers and staff. Advise officers, managers and employees on new laws, legal trends, cases and policies pertinent to the Companies. Supervise and monitor work performed by outside attorneys, manage outside‑counsel costs, and provide guidance to Legal Department Assistants. Act as a legal adviser on task forces, committees and special projects; communicate with senior management and prepare presentations. Assist in developing policies, procedures and strategies for legal services and monitor emerging legal review needs. Handle routine matters in court or before government agencies. Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned. Associate General Counsel – Basic Qualifications Law degree, membership in the Hawaii State Bar and license to practice law in Hawaii (or admission pending). Thorough knowledge of commercial and business law, particularly contracts. General knowledge and specialized knowledge in one or more listed legal areas. Minimum of 4 years' legal experience. Senior Associate General Counsel – Responsibilities Similar to Associate level responsibilities with enhanced strategic direction and minimal oversight. Provide creative problem‑solving and strategic direction on complex legal issues and risk. Provide guidance to Legal Department Assistants and work direction to outside attorneys. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems for legal services; monitor potential legal review needs. Handle routine matters in court or before government agencies with minimal oversight. Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned. Senior Associate General Counsel – Basic Qualifications Law degree, Hawaii State Bar membership and license to practice law in Hawaii (or admission pending). Broad knowledge of energy law or a specified practice area. Thorough knowledge of commercial and business law, primarily contracts. General knowledge of other legal areas listed in the job requirements. Minimum of 7 years' legal experience, including at least 3 years in a specialized practice area.
