Property Management Grounds Maintenance Specialist Trainee

Pay Schedule II, Grade H16, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week. Job Summary Property Management Grounds Maintenance Specialist Trainee position in the Office of Budget and Finance. This is a training classification with a maximum appointment of eighteen months. Responsibilities Drive a single‑axle commercial weight vehicle and operate equipment used in the maintenance of recreation and park grounds, school recreation centers, and other County‑owned facilities. Operate tractors and attachments, mowers, saws, and similar equipment. Participate in the countywide snow removal operation. Maintain and repair tools and equipment. Plant, water, cultivate, spray, and cut grass on park grounds. Perform all operations required for the upkeep and repair of turf, trees, and shrubbery. Assist in laying out, constructing, and rebuilding athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds. Install playground apparatus, goal posts, and backstops. Erect and repair fences, barriers, park signs, and benches. Remove debris from park and playground areas. Assist in repairing sidewalks, drinking fountains, and water lines. Perform basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, electrical, and other maintenance work on park and recreation facilities. Picks up refuse at park sites and recreation facilities. Keep simple records and logs. Participate in safety‑related training, including equipment operation and handling of hazardous materials. Other Duties May perform custodial tasks such as cleaning restrooms and emptying trash, and other related duties as required. Qualifications Possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a non‑provisional, non‑commercial, Class C Maryland driver’s license. Non‑Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age. Medical and Background Requirements Applicants selected must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening, and employment background investigation, including criminal background, education certification, and fingerprinting checks.
