Position Summary
Baker Manufacturing Company is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and manage the companys environmental, health, and safety programs across its operations. This is a hands-on, independent position responsible for overseeing workplace safety, regulatory compliance, environmental requirements, employee safety programs, training, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The EHS Manager will serve as the primary safety resource for the organization and will work closely with plant leadership, supervisors, employees, Human Resources, and other departments to maintain a safe, compliant, and professional workplace.
This position supports multiple company locations, including manufacturing, foundry, warehouse, and related operations. The primary location is Evansville, Wisconsin, with regular travel to other Wisconsin facilities as needed. Occasional travel to other company locations may be required, generally no more than once per month and typically for only a few days at a time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company-wide environmental, health, and safety programs, policies, procedures, and practices.
- Serve as the primary EHS resource for company facilities and provide guidance to leadership, supervisors, and employees regarding workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DNR, and other federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain required safety and environmental records, documentation, permits, reports, inspections, and regulatory filings.
- Conduct routine facility and workplace inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Support environmental compliance associated with foundry and manufacturing operations, including applicable air emissions, waste management, hazardous materials, chemical management, stormwater, spill prevention, and other environmental requirements.
- Manage required OSHA recordkeeping, including injury and illness records and applicable reporting requirements.
- Lead and coordinate investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related events. Identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to ensure appropriate measures are implemented.
- Track safety trends, incidents, corrective actions, and key EHS metrics and communicate relevant findings to leadership.
- Develop and conduct safety training, orientation, refresher training, toolbox talks, and other required or appropriate employee safety education.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate training related to PPE, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, emergency response, powered industrial trucks, machine safety, ergonomics, confined spaces, and other applicable workplace hazards.
- Partner with operational leadership and other appropriate departments regarding safety expectations, employee safety concerns, work restrictions, return-to-work considerations, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance regarding situations involving suspected impairment, drug or alcohol concerns, reasonable suspicion, testing procedures, and other fitness-for-duty or workplace safety concerns in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
- Assist leadership with determining appropriate immediate safety actions when an employee's behavior, condition, or actions may create a risk to themselves or others.
- Support consistent documentation and communication related to safety violations and work with appropriate leadership when safety-related corrective action or discipline may be necessary.
- Promote a workplace culture in which employees and supervisors understand their responsibility for safety and feel comfortable reporting hazards, injuries, near misses, and other concerns.
- Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response procedures, including evacuation plans and coordination of required drills.
- Coordinate with workers compensation resources, occupational health providers, insurance representatives, consultants, regulatory agencies, and other outside partners as appropriate.
- Participate in safety committees and leadership discussions and provide recommendations regarding workplace hazards, equipment, processes, and operational changes.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices affecting manufacturing and foundry environments and communicate necessary changes to leadership.
- Travel between company facilities as necessary to provide EHS support and maintain consistent safety expectations across locations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant EHS experience may be considered.
- Previous EHS or safety management experience in a manufacturing, industrial, foundry, or similar environment strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable environmental regulations.
- Experience supporting environmental compliance in a manufacturing or foundry environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, safety audits, risk assessments, and employee training.
- Knowledge of workers compensation, return-to-work practices, reasonable suspicion procedures, and workplace drug and alcohol safety considerations preferred.
- Ability to independently manage EHS responsibilities while effectively working with employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership.
- Strong judgment and the ability to appropriately handle confidential, sensitive, and potentially high-risk workplace situations.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance regulatory compliance with practical operational needs in an active manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize company systems.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- This position requires regular presence in manufacturing and foundry environments and may involve exposure to heat, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, machinery, uneven surfaces, and other conditions commonly associated with industrial operations.
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods and regularly navigate manufacturing, foundry, warehouse, and production areas.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and access various areas of company facilities as necessary to conduct inspections, investigations, and safety activities.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, hard hats, and other PPE appropriate to the work environment.
- Must be able and willing to travel between company locations, including regular travel to Wisconsin facilities and occasional travel to other company locations.

The EHS Manager is expected to be a visible and approachable presence throughout the organization and to build productive working relationships with employees and leadership at all levels.
The successful candidate will be comfortable spending significant time on the production floor, identifying concerns, communicating expectations, providing practical solutions, and following through on corrective actions.
This position requires someone who can independently lead the EHS function while working collaboratively across the organization to create and maintain a safe, compliant, and professional working environment.
