District Profile The Rome City School District is proud to serve over 5,200 students across nine schools, supporting a diverse mix of city, rural, and suburban communities. Our student body represents 21 languages, with 60% of our students facing economic challenges. Known for its well-rounded academic and extracurricular opportunities, the district is committed to fostering academic excellence, supporting student well-being, and promoting equitable outcomes. We are dedicated to creating a collaborative and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. The Rome City School District welcomes applications from candidates who are currently enrolled in a School Psychology graduate program and are eligible to complete a supervised internship, practicum, or field placement as part of their certification requirements. Qualified candidates will be paired with an experienced, New York State-certified School Psychologist who will serve as a mentor and supervisor. The District will provide the supervision, guidance, and performance evaluations necessary to support the completion of required clinical and fieldwork hours toward New York State certification/licensure. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in a diverse Pre‑K–12 educational setting while receiving ongoing professional support and development. Position Overview: The School Psychologist plays a critical role in promoting student success by applying psychological and educational expertise to support academic achievement, social‑emotional development, and behavioral well‑being. This position involves collaboration with educators, families, and outside agencies to assess student needs, develop targeted interventions, and support data‑driven decision‑making for students in Pre‑K through grade 12. This role may require occasional flexibility in scheduling to accommodate meetings with families or partner agencies outside of the traditional school day. Key Responsibilities: Conduct psychological evaluations aligned with professional and regulatory standards. Analyze academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional data to inform instructional planning and eligibility determinations. Consider cultural, linguistic, and socio‑economic factors when evaluating students. Synthesize multiple data sources to develop recommendations for programming and support. Design and implement evidence‑based academic and behavioral interventions. Provide counseling and skill‑building support to students. May be required to run CSE meetings to monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data. Support development of positive learning environments that foster student engagement and resilience. Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to address barriers to learning. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP development and review. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to promote positive behavioral interventions. Support development and implementation of prevention programs and initiatives that promote safe and supportive school environments. Qualifications: Valid New York State certification as a School Psychologist. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong assessment, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Experience working in diverse school settings. Training or experience in culturally responsive practices. Ability to travel between district sites; mileage reimbursement provided. Why Join Us? Collaborative team‑based environment with strong professional support. Access to ongoing professional development and specialized training. Opportunities to contribute to district‑wide initiatives and program development.
