We are looking to connect an Outbound Shipping Clerk with our client’s growing distribution team. The Outbound Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating and executing daily outbound shipping operations to ensure customer orders are processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. This position will manage shipping documentation, carrier systems, shipment preparation, and communication with internal sales personnel and other departments throughout the organization.

The successful candidate must have strong hands-on experience with UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, and My Carrier, possess forklift operating experience, demonstrate strong computer and communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

The individual must also be capable of making informed shipping recommendations based on customer requirements, delivery deadlines, carrier services, and cost considerations.

 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Process and coordinate daily outbound shipments in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements. 

• Operate and maintain shipping systems, including UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, and My Carrier. 

• Prepare shipping labels, bills of lading, packing documentation, carrier paperwork, and other required shipping records. 

• Verify shipping addresses, customer information, order details, package quantities, weights, dimensions, and service levels. 

• Select and coordinate appropriate carriers and shipping methods based on delivery requirements, service availability, and cost-effectiveness. 

• Ensure shipments are properly packaged, labeled, staged, and released to the appropriate carrier. 

• Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure orders are picked, packed, and ready for scheduled carrier pickups. 

• Monitor carrier pickup schedules and communicate any delays, missed pickups, or shipment exceptions to the appropriate personnel. 

• Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, address errors, damaged shipments, and carrier-related issues. 

• Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure all shipping transactions are completed in a timely manner.

  INTERNAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION  

• Communicate professionally and effectively with sales personnel throughout the organization via email and Microsoft Teams. 

• Respond promptly to shipping inquiries, order status requests, and delivery-related questions.

• Provide shipping recommendations to sales personnel when needed, including appropriate carrier and service selection, expedited versus standard shipping options, estimated transit times, delivery expectations, shipment routing, cost-conscious alternatives, and special handling or packaging requirements. 

• Partner with sales, warehouse operations, customer service, and management to resolve shipment issues and meet customer expectations. 

• Provide timely updates regarding order readiness, shipment status, delays, and delivery concerns. 

• Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service in all internal and external communications. 

WAREHOUSE AND MATERIAL HANDLING  

• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently, as assigned. 

• Load, unload, move, and stage freight, cartons, pallets, and shipping materials. 

• Ensure outbound shipments are properly organized and staged for carrier pickup. 

• Assist with warehouse organization, inventory movement, and general shipping-area housekeeping. 

• Follow all company safety procedures, material-handling requirements, and equipment operating guidelines. 

• Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, product damage, or shipping hazards to management. 

DOCUMENTATION, ACCURACY, AND COMPLIANCE  

• Maintain accurate shipping records, tracking information, and shipment documentation. 

• Verify that all outbound shipments comply with company policies and customer requirements. 

• Ensure shipping transactions are completed accurately in the appropriate systems. 

• Protect customer, order, and company information. 

• Follow established warehouse, shipping, safety, and quality-control procedures. 

• Assist management with shipping reports, audits, and performance tracking as requested. 

The position requires the employee to work in a warehouse and shipping environment and may include: 

• Standing and walking for extended periods. 

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling packages and materials within applicable company weight limits. 

• Repeated bending, reaching, stooping, and handling of cartons or pallets. 

• Operating a forklift and other approved warehouse equipment. 

• Working around moving equipment, freight, loading areas, and warehouse traffic. 

• Working overtime, occasional Saturdays, and assigned after-hours duties as business needs require.

The successful candidate must possess: 

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience using UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, and My Carrier. 

• Previous warehouse outbound shipping or distribution experience. 

• Demonstrated forklift operating experience. 

• Microsoft Office experience, including Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Teams. 

• Basic computer skills, including data entry, email communication, navigating software systems, and maintaining electronic records.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements, subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws: 

• Successfully complete and pass the company's required pre-employment drug screening. 

• Successfully complete the company's required background check covering the applicable previous five- to six-year period. 

• Be willing and able to work overtime when necessary, including occasional Saturdays. 

• Be willing and able to perform assigned after-hours shipping or warehouse duties when required. 

Full-time employment after completing the 90-day Temp to Perm period.
