ALPI's Children and Family Services Division focus is on activities that enhance the process of providing developmentally appropriate early education activities including, but not limited to, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, parent information and referral on quality child care and health services programs. The ALPI is a certified Child/Adult Care Food Program agency. Through this program, ALPI provides nutrition and meal services for Head Start and Child Care Program participants and certifies private child care providers to participate in the program. SUMMARY

The Teacher reports to the Child Development Services Manager to provide services to children ages 3-5 years in the program. A select teacher at an assigned center will be in charge of center in the absences of the Child Development Services Manager. Teacher is directly responsible for program planning and daily supervision of an assigned group of children (15-20) ages 3-5 years. Duties involves implementing activities which contribute to the social, physical, intellectual and emotional needs of group and individual children. Work also involves providing direction and technical assistance for Teacher Assistant, conducting parent conferences and home visits. Work is performed under the guidance of the Child Development Services Manager and is reviewed through monitoring, conferences and evaluations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and carries-out classroom arrangement, lesson plans and various developmentally appropriate activities for children to develop social, emotional, intellectual and physical progress. Implements the program's curriculum focusing on the developmental need of children. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate field trips for children. Assists in the developmental and sensory screenings of children and assesses the ongoing developmental level of children. Ensures children portfolios include all eight domains for child outcomes. Administers developmental screenings. Uses child outcomes data reports to strengthen teaching techniques. Records observations on assessment on all children in Teaching Strategies Gold, ongoing assessment online system. Plans and implements individual activities for the children. Maintains accurate attendance and meal records. Provides supervision and a positive social and learning experiences for family style meal services. Reports suspected child abuse/neglect situations. Maintains a professional manner by dressing neatly and appropriately to serve as a positive adult model for children and parents. Maintains classroom environment, equipment and supplies in accordance with DCF regulations and Performance Standards. Conducts daily maintenance inspections of classroom and reports to the Child Development Services Manager needs regarding safety, materials, equipment or supplies. Organizes classroom into learning centers and ensure work space meet all local, state and federal requirements. Supervises, evaluates and assists Teacher Assistants to ensure a program which provides appropriate child development, and the development of Teacher Assistant as professional educators. Recruits and supervises volunteers to work in the classroom to utilize their skills effectively. Makes home visits in order to encourage parent participation in the program and help parents to become more familiar with the needs of children and with learning activities which can be conducted at home. Prepares written reports and supervise maintenance of records concerning the child's attendance, progress, problems, health, and parent contacts. Makes home visits and hold conferences with each family during the school year and provides written progress to parents and maintains confidential files. Attends professional and educational conferences and meetings to keep abreast of educational trends and enhance knowledge and skills. Refers children to appropriate program services, when necessary. Attends parent meetings and community meetings related to the program as necessary. Provides support in the planning and implementation of training for parent meetings and develops activities for parents to do with their child. Assists with loading and unloading of children from buses. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Level I: A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associate's Degree in a related field or Child Development Associate (National CDA) Certification with 30 hours of college credits, preferably in education/early childhood development. Level II: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education with two (2) years of teaching experience or a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or related field. Level III: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with a state teacher certification.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver's license. 45-Hour Child Care Certification from the State of Florida OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Must have means of transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires physical fitness and includes a variety of activities such as running, ability to move quickly, playing and being actively involved with children. It also includes bending, stooping and sitting at children's level. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
