The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of nursing services to ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care. This leadership role works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to maintain regulatory compliance, support staff development, improve clinical outcomes, and promote operational excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily nursing operations and staffing to ensure continuity of care and compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Lead, mentor, and supervise nursing personnel, including scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and staff development.
Manage recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention efforts for nursing department employees.
Collaborate with facility leadership and healthcare providers regarding admissions, resident care planning, and discharge coordination.
Ensure physician services and clinical care requirements are delivered appropriately and timely.
Monitor the availability of staffing, equipment, and clinical supplies necessary to support quality resident care.
Participate in budget planning and fiscal oversight related to nursing operations and departmental needs.
Conduct routine rounds and audits to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
Support and implement clinical quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing resident outcomes and reducing avoidable hospital readmissions.
Oversee documentation systems, care planning processes, and compliance with resident assessment requirements.
Partner with leadership teams to develop and implement educational and professional development programs for nursing staff.
Serve as the primary nursing leader during clinical emergencies and maintain on-call availability as needed.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan required.
Current CPR certification required.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Minimum of three years of leadership experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care setting preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare regulations, clinical operations, and quality assurance practices.
Experience with staffing management, budgeting, and performance improvement initiatives.
Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a flexible work schedule.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand movements as needed in a clinical environment.
Ability to travel occasionally for meetings or training.
Must follow workplace safety standards and infection control protocols.
