JOB TITLE: Adjunct Faculty for General Education Communication courses

DEPARTMENT: Communication and Media Studies

REPORTS TO: Communication and Media Studies Department Chair

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communication and Media Studies Department is seeking applicants for adjunct faculty positions in Communication on the RCU campus at various times. Classes are twice a week, and there is sometimes a Wednesday, once a week, for 3 hours. Adjunct contracts are less than part-time and made on a semester-by-semester basis, but often result in recurring assignments within a regular course rotation. Adjunct openings often occur on short notice as additional sections of classes open based on enrollment numbers. Applications are always welcome.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline. or a master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline or a closely related discipline.
• Candidates with terminal degrees and other specialized training are also highly desired.
• Previous teaching experience is preferred; candidates willing to receive mentorship will be considered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with the chair on the syllabus and curriculum situated within RCU learning goals.
• Effectively plan active learning assignments in multiple modalities for student engagement.
• Confidentially create and maintain appropriate educational records to document the academic performance of students.
• Fulfill adjunct duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
• Stay current in departmental and university policies, procedures, and practices related to the classroom to provide accurate information and support to students.
• Promote an inclusive RCU and participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to the success of all students.
