About the Position: This is a Cartographer, GS-1370-12 position with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, Real Estate Division in Fort Worth, TX.

Duties

Help

  • Maintain a suite of mapping products for briefing the Navigation and Project Operations Branch Missions.
  • Ensure quality assurance and accuracy of enterprise level geospatial data.
  • Design and implement workflows for creating, editing, and delivering geospatial data to the desktop.
  • Conduct field investigations in areas with marshes, swamps, or rugged terrain to assess, locate, evaluate, and interpret geodetic and photogrammetric controls for cartographic and geographic activities.
  • Create interactive data visualizations (insights, charts, and figures) for reports, meetings, and presentations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Education Requirement for Cartographer:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in cartography, or a degree with a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography. and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Operating Computer Aided Design/Drafting systems to develop spatial data reports: AND 2.) Conduction quality control review on cartographic/geospatial products such as aerial photography results produced by contractors for accuracy and completeness; AND 3.) Performing redrafting map formats to adapt to map designs. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the net lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) or equivalent.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term Appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term Appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
