Storage System Engineer

About the organization This organization builds infrastructure for software development environments used by developers and AI agents. Their platform creates secure, sandboxed environments quickly, and the next phase is building the storage layer needed to support that at much larger scale. What you'll do Take a new storage product from MVP to production, with responsibility for reliability, durability, performance and operational behaviour. Architect and build distributed storage systems, including S3-compatible storage, object storage APIs, backend abstraction and related services. Design for the ugly parts: fault tolerance, automated failover, consistency checks, graceful degradation and recovery when things break. Build and operate infrastructure using Go, Kubernetes, gRPC, Envoy and cloud-native tooling, with observability baked in through metrics, tracing, SLOs and alerting. What you need Deep experience building, architecting, debugging or owning storage systems at scale. Strong understanding of object storage, S3-compatible systems, distributed KV stores or similar infrastructure, including the trade‑offs behind them. A solid background in highly available distributed systems, especially consistency, replication, failover, durability, availability and cost. Strong Go or comparable systems/backend engineering experience, plus comfort with Kubernetes, networking, orchestration and production infrastructure. The practical bits Salary: Up to $350K, depending on experience. Working setup: Based in San Francisco.
