Since 2001, we've placed millions of books into the hands and homes of children across Nevada's most at-risk communities - inspiring a lifelong love of learning and brighter academic futures. Position Summary The Program Facilitator II oversees the daily operations of the Books & Buddies' Mentor Center located inside the school. The Books and Buddies program is a multi-generational mentoring program developed to improve the literacy skills of underserved children by partnering with volunteer mentors acting as reading companions. Working together, the Program Facilitator, the volunteer, and the student focus on improving the child's confidence, literacy skills, love of reading and building their home library. Books & Buddies mentors provide the much-needed individualized attention that is not readily available within the classroom or at home. This part-time position offers up to 24 hours per week, scheduled over four weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday in Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, Nevada. Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain a clean and engaging space for mentors and buddiesOversee the organization, display, and utilization of all literacy materials and books at the center siteTrack, record, and report program/mentor data required for the center siteServe as a liaison with school site personnel (teachers and/or staff)Build and maintain ongoing relationships with volunteer mentors including but not limited to providing guidance, retention, and recruitmentFollow all school site policies and proceduresAdminister pre- and post-assessment for children participatingAssist in the on-site training, managing, and guiding of mentorsOther duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Program Management team that are related to the fundamental aspects of the Program Facilitator II position Education and/or Experience RequirementsCollege degree required; an associate degree or higherMinimum of one (1) year of experience working with elementary-aged children preferredMinimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred General RequirementsBasic knowledge of and experience working with literacy development for elementary-aged childrenAbility to reflect on and evaluate the site program, continually modifying as neededMust be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and ExcelMust possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written formatsAbility to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistencyUse of a reliable personal vehicle Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid Nevada State Drivers' License, proof of current automobile insurance and automobile registration Personal Characteristics Below are some of the qualities a Program Facilitator will exhibit:Passion for the mission and programOutgoing, positive, and energeticAbility to work with a variety of personalitiesAbility to think both independently and interdependentlyStrong organizational skillsMotivated and flexible self-starterStrong written and verbal communication skillsTeam playerAbility to multitask in a fast-paced environment Physical & Mental Demands and Working Conditions: RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
