Lead Multi-modality Technologist

The Lead Multi-modality Technologist position is responsible for performing imaging procedures in two or more modalities while providing leadership to a team of technologists. This position serves as a procedure specialist and leads a team of radiology technologists in two or more modalities.

This position's location is on-site only.

Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Provide team leadership to staff in the department.
  • Act as a resource and first point of escalation resource to address the needs of staff, patients and families.
  • Serve as a procedure specialist and subject matters expert on modality and its process and procedures.
  • Acts as the day-to-day lead for operations of the department and assures efficient operation of workflow of the department.
  • Responsible for maintaining the work schedule, workflow and staff schedules for the department.
  • Participates in the hiring process, performance evaluation and handling of issues, and in problem solving for the team.

Patient Care:

  • Obtains patient history.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
  • Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.
  • Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
  • Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.
  • Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies.
  • Maintains infection prevention standards.
  • Explains standard procedures and answers patients questions.
  • Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.
  • Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required
  • Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.

Modality Specific:

  • CT: Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of a patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.
  • Mammography: Prepares patient and equipment for mammography procedure. Positions patient throughout the procedures, adjusting immobilization devices for proper compression. Performs radiologic mammography exams, including screenings and diagnostic studies, and analysis. May participate in the performance of advanced mammography procedures such as stereostatic biopsies, clip placements, drainages.
  • MRI: Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used for diagnosis and treatment of patient pathologies. Uses knowledge of imaging techniques and cross-sectional anatomy to create high quality scans. Modifies technical settings and adjusts scanning parameters to enhance images and minimize unnecessary exposure. Start IVs and/or catheters effectively and consistently for the MRI process. Prepare, administer and monitor IV contrast and/or patient sedation and patient status.
  • Diagnostic/Xray: Performs radiographic procedures using both stationary and mobile radiographic equipment. Responsible for appropriate set up of the xray room and manipulation of equipment, and proper placement of patient for procedure. Ensure proper image capture of skeletal structure request for diagnosis and treatment purposes. Process and develops exposed xray film and creates xray CD copies for review and interpretation.
  • Ultrasound: Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomic data. Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Utilizes transabdominal technology to monitor patient or fetus health, detect or monitor tumors/cysts and diagnose cardiovascular conditions. May assist with vascular ultrasound procedures and ultrasound guided biopsies and other guided procedures.
  • Nuclear Medicine: Performs nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrating competence in performing invasive/interventional procedures. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Operates imaging equipment and technology to track and record radiation with the patient's body, and prepares image reports. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measures. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical safe receipt, administration, storage, usage and disposal for regulatory compliance.

Quality:

  • Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notifying appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.
  • Participates in required training for compliance related activities (HIPAA, Compliance, Patient Safety, TJC, other regulatory bodies).
  • Participates and contributes to quality improvement processes and unit meetings/activities.

  • Ensures that the examination results meet the facility standard for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.
  • Provide oversight for the assessment of examinations performed within the facility for technical and image quality, and accuracy.
  • Document any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
  • Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs.

Education:

  • Keeps updated on the knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and imaging equipment.
  • Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidenced based practice and research.
  • Participates in the mentoring and education of technologists and students in assigned area.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
  • Works with peers and other health care providers. Participates in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of new staff.

Compliance/Safety:

  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
  • If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
Qualifications

Education: Associates of Applied Science or other Related Fields (or) accredited MRI program (or) Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program (or) Graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasonography - Required

Certification & Licensures:

  • Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire
  • BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
  • Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their department leader
  • Diagnostic/X-ray: Current Radiologic Technologist certification ® with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – RequiredArizona Department of Health Radiology Technologist license
  • CT: ARRT CT OR Experience which allows employee to receive AZ State license for CT - RequiredAZDHS Certified Radiologic Technologist and CT - Required
  • Mammography: Current registry as a Mammography Technologist - RequiredMeets ACR Certification criteria - RequiredAZDHS Mammography- Required
  • MRI: Current ARRT registry in MRI - RequiredUltrasound: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - Required with at least two specialtiesRVT - Preferred
  • Nuclear Medicine: Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB) and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT(N)) - Required

Experience:

Minimum 3 years' experience in an acute care setting - RequiredMinimum 1 year experience in a team lead or supervisory role – RequiredHealthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must understand computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
