Laboratory Technologist

The Laboratory Technologist performs laboratory testing procedures and provides clinical result interpretation according to established procedures, ensuring quality standards are met.

The Laboratory Technologist performs tests in compliance with established departmental standards. The Technologist reviews and verifies results to ensure data validity and interprets results. This position applies appropriate procedural techniques related to specimen procurement and handling, instrument operation, operator maintenance, application of universal precautions and inventory monitoring. The Technologist also participates in the evaluation of new equipment and troubleshoots equipment problems as needed.

The Laboratory Technologist performs and documents quality control procedures and proficiency testing in accordance with established parameters and standards. This position works with the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager to resolve quality control, patient or procedural problems and recommends enhancements to laboratory procedures.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited medical technology program or meets FDA qualifications for CLIA standards for all laboratory and high complexity testing. MT/MLS/BB/C/H/M/MB/SC/SH/SM ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) eligible or equivalent (American Medical Technologists - AMT) and required from 24 months of hire date or transfer Certification must be maintained if not grandfathered from the Board of Registry (BOR) and requires participation in 12 CEUs annually.

Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements is an employment condition.

This position demands increased amounts of standing, bending and manual manipulation, as well as some light lifting up to 20lbs.

Core competencies will be assessed primarily to the following patient population(s) served (with the exception of newborns): All diagnoses/conditions of patients admitted to the hospital.

This position reports to the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor.
