Responsibilities Supervise investigations regarding allegations of child abuse, neglect, abandonment, and special conditions. Engage families, identify needs, and determine the level of intervention needed, including voluntary services or court‑ordered dependency services. Provide services linkages to agency and community resources based on needs assessment and recommend case‑plan development to the Case Manager. Conduct initial/ongoing child present and impending danger assessments. Develop a signed Present Danger Plan and a signed safety plan for any identified threats and interventions. Arrange emergency placement for any child that cannot safely remain in the home. Notify state attorney, law enforcement, child protection team, and other required individuals as appropriate. Schedule and gather information for and participate in case staffings. Prepare appropriate reports/documentation and provide testimony in court in coordination with Children’s Legal Services. Maintain thorough documentation in client records and appropriate information systems and keep organized client files. Report indication of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with community providers, Children’s Legal Services, law enforcement, medical personnel, schools, and other agencies involved with child protective investigations. Ensure effective communication with deaf or hard‑of‑hearing customers or companions per ADA and/or Section 504 requirements. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (preferred bachelor’s or master’s in social work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited program). 2+ years of experience in child welfare, preferred in child abuse investigations. Current/Active Child Welfare Certification credentials from the Florida Certification Board. Must be trained and practicing Florida’s Safety Practice method. Special Note The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete the PROFICIENCY PROCESS FOR CHILD PROTECTION INVESTIGATIONS SUPERVISORS, which includes ongoing development of coaching, supervision, and consulting skills per Florida’s Practice Model. This process ensures each CPIS has the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for case analysis and consultation. Active Listening – Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate. Learning Strategies – Using multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things. Coordination – Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions. Management of Personnel Resources – Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Therapy and Counseling – Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance. Data Analysis – Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating. Psychology – Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services and needs‑assessment techniques. Education and Training – Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques. English Language – Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, meaning, spelling, rules of composition, and grammar. Licensure, Certification or Registration Requirements Child Protection Certification.
