Job Description

The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment across complex construction projects in New York City. This position focuses on conducting daily site safety inspections, implementing project-specific safety plans, and ensuring adherence to NYC Department of Buildings (DOB), OSHA, and client safety requirements. The role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, collaborate with major industry stakeholders, and contribute directly to worker safety, project success, and regulatory compliance within a specialized construction safety organization.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily jobsite and site safety inspections to identify hazards and assess risk conditions.
• Implement and enforce project-specific Site Safety Plans in alignment with regulatory and client requirements.
• Ensure full compliance with NYC DOB requirements, including Chapter 33 regulations, OSHA standards, and client safety programs.
• Perform new hire safety orientations and deliver ongoing safety training to site personnel.
• Lead toolbox talks and facilitate weekly safety meetings to reinforce safety awareness and best practices.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, accidents, and safety violations, and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations.
• Recommend corrective actions to address identified hazards and follow through on mitigation efforts to ensure closure.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance with safety regulations, project standards, and site-specific safety programs.
• Maintain all required safety documentation, including permits, inspections, logs, and regulatory records.
• Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, contractors, and regulatory agencies to align safety activities with project goals.
• Assist with emergency response planning and implementation, ensuring that procedures are understood and followed on site.
• Support advanced safety management practices on high-profile projects and contribute to continuous improvement of safety programs.

Essential Skills

• Active NYC DOB Licensed Site Safety Coordinator certification.
• Demonstrated experience in construction safety management, including daily site inspections and hazard assessments.
• Strong knowledge of NYC DOB requirements and Chapter 33 regulations.
• Thorough understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety best practices.
• Ability to implement and enforce Site Safety Plans on complex construction projects.
• Proficiency in conducting toolbox talks, safety orientations, and ongoing safety training sessions.
• Experience investigating incidents, near misses, and safety violations and developing corrective action plans.
• Capability to monitor subcontractor safety compliance and maintain accurate, organized safety documentation.
• Effective collaboration skills to work directly with project managers, superintendents, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Clear communication skills for leading meetings, delivering training, and preparing detailed safety reports.

• CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Experience with high-rise construction projects.
• Experience with healthcare construction environments.
• Experience working on infrastructure projects.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role based at active construction project locations, primarily within New York City.

The Safety Coordinator works in dynamic field conditions, regularly moving around job sites to conduct inspections, interact with project teams, and oversee safety activities. The environment involves collaboration with owners, developers, contractors, and construction managers on high-profile projects.

Work is performed in and around construction areas, which may include high-rise structures, healthcare facilities, infrastructure works, and public works sites.

The role requires a professional presence on site, adherence to all applicable safety procedures, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment as required by project and regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
