Manager, Database Administration- Teradata

Responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of multiple Teradata systems, databases, including troubleshooting. Assists in establishing the needs of users and monitors user access and security. Monitors performance and manages parameters to provide fast query responses to “front-end” users. Responsible for installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS); maintaining data standards; writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata); controlling access permissions and privileges; developing, managing, and testing backup and recovery plans; ensuring that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly; capacity planning; working closely with IT partner teams. Communicates regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security. Installs new applications. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related field.5+ years’ experience working on Teradata systems hosting large Data Warehousing applications.1 years’ experience in a leadership role.5+ years’ experience working and supporting BI and Data Warehousing applications.Solid understanding of BI and Data Warehousing concepts.Advanced knowledge of handling large size Teradata systems (V16.10 or higher) on Linux platform.Good knowledge of database administration tasks such as backups, restores, complete database recovery, security practices, system scans, patches, data encryption etc.Advanced installation, configuration, upgrades and maintenance experience on Teradata systems.Solid experience with database features such as table partitioning, Primary & secondary indexes, statistics collection/refresh, data skew etc.Ability to write, debug and tune SQL, stored procedures, functions, triggers, Bteq script etc.Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning tools such as TASM, Viewpoint etc.Solid experience with the Unix/Linux operating system and command set as well as competence with Shell, Perl and/or Python scripting.Good knowledge of physical and logical disk systems and their impact on database performance.Advanced knowledge of standard database functions and concepts for DWH applications.Solid understanding of SDLC processes and the production DBA's role in configuration and change management.Experience supporting new project development and testing in non-production environment.Solid ability to identify non performant queries and recommend tuning opportunities.Experience in an enterprise 24x7 environment.Experience providing Teradata platform support from data loads and SLA perspective.Support users in production and non-prod environments and address escalations as necessary.Experience working and supporting DevOps teams from DBA standpoint.Experience understanding data model and providing design and ETL code recommendations during development phase.Experience working on Snowflake in a cloud (Azure, AWS, Google) environment is preferredPerformance and TuningTeradata Database performance monitoring, tuning, and administrative functions for production and Dev/QA Data warehousing environments.Forecasts for database sizing and management. Backup and RecoveryEstablishes and maintains sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.Performs advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of database issues. Capacity and PlanningPerforms database capacity planning, physical database design, and implementation. SupportPrepares for database expansion by studying plans and requirements.Supports internal datacenter and lab environment on an as-needed basis.Responds to system problems, if necessary, at any time (24x7); responsible for providing after-hours support.Provides technical troubleshooting for applications and database systems with emphasis on root cause analysis.Functions as the technical liaison with system admin and DBA enterprise-wide operation teams.DBA support on new projects and deployments using DevOps model. Installation and UpgradeConfigures and tunes hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and system resource utilization.Displays thorough knowledge of server clustering techniques and the impact on database configuration and performance.Manages standby databases, snapshots, cloning and other advanced database features.Standards and DocumentationMaintains database results by setting and enforcing standards and controls.Enforce and enhance industry best practices for Data Warehousing applications.Ensures compliance to CCPA, SOX & CPNI controls and participate in internal and external audits.Leadership Provides technical mentoring and expertise to team members. Takes a leadership role in design and application review sessions, definition of computing standards and recommendation of policies related to those standards.Relationship and People Management Effectively manages team to achieve results by providing appropriate direction, timely developmental feedback and coaching, and conducting performance reviews and conversations. Interviews and hires qualified team members, striving to improve T-Mobile bench strength and augmenting product or project teams with contract staff when required. Supports team in creating training and career development plans and ensures assignments with increasing levels of responsibility are given to staff. Provides coaching and direction to the team that drives action and enables achievement of performance and operational goals.
