The Assembly Manufacturing Engineer develops, documents, and improves production assembly processes to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. In this role you will provide day-to-day engineering support to assembly operations, lead process improvements, and drive robust work instructions, tooling/fixture readiness, and problem resolution through data-driven, immediate, well-founded actions.

The successful candidate will have a high degree of business acumen and will be market savvy. They should have well-developed interpersonal skills as well as show a keen interest and knowledge of manufacturing managements processes. Due to the close working relationship within the company, it is important that this individual has excellent organizational skills, be self-motivated, and be able to effectively interface at a variety of levels. Essential job functions include developing, evaluating, and improving manual and semi-automated assembly methods, developing and maintaining safe, capable, and repeatable assembly processes, creating and maintaining clear assembly work instructions, supporting production schedules, defining and validating assembly process parameters and quality controls, training and coaching production personnel, driving continuous improvement, reviewing engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications, and troubleshooting and resolving recurring assembly issues.

Other job functions include assisting cross-functional support teams, encouraging and maintaining a safe work environment, supporting site initiatives for Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and productivity improvements, providing direction, leadership, and technical support for production shop, ensuring production KPI's are maintained, and assisting in other projects as needed.

Experience and education requirements include a BSME/BSIE (or related) and at least 3 years of manufacturing experience supporting assembly operations (or at least 6 years equivalent experience), working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, standard work, line balancing, and continuous improvement methods, ability to define and implement assembly processes and process tooling, demonstrated project management skills, ability to excel in a high-volume production atmosphere, experience with process documentation and basic CAD capability, familiarity with automated assembly, error-proofing, and/or robotics, and familiarity with machining operations and part characteristics that impact assembly.

Physical requirements include the ability to sit at a computer for extended periods, walk through production areas as needed, stand for varying lengths of time, bend, reach, grasp, and handle documents, tools, raw materials, or equipment components, lift and carry items up to 50 pounds, use hands and fingers for typing, filing, operating office equipment, and performing basic mechanical tasks, regular interaction with manufacturing machinery and raw materials, and the ability to communicate clearly in environments with varying noise levels.

Work environment includes exposure to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, industrial lighting, excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, humidity, odors, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards. Personal Protective Equipment required when on the manufacturing floor includes safety glasses with side shields.
